Chapter 3 - The King's SurrenderEmma gently guided Noah back to his bedroom, tucking him in beside his identical brother, Ethan. When she returned to the living room, Nathan was still sitting on his knees on the carpet, staring at his trembling hands.

The billionaire King of Concrete was broken.

"You have to leave, Nathan," Emma said quietly, though the sharpness in her voice had given way to an exhausting sadness.

Nathan stood up slowly. He pulled a heavy leather-bound document from his coat pocket and placed it gently on the wooden coffee table.

"What is that?" Emma asked, eyeing the folder suspiciously.

"That," Nathan said, "is the master development contract for the Chicago Lakefront Mega-Tower. It’s a 1.8-billion-dollar deal. My mother, the board, and our international partners from Dubai are signing the final merger documents on Monday morning."

"Why are you showing me this?"

"Because if I sign that contract," Nathan looked directly into her eyes, "I become the Chairman of Harrison Global for life. My mother gets her ultimate victory. But to secure the deal, I am required to relocate to Singapore for three years."

Emma remained silent, her expression guarded.

"I'm not going to Singapore," Nathan stated simply.

Emma blinked, caught off guard. "What?"

"I am stepping down as CEO of Harrison Global tomorrow morning," Nathan declared, his voice filled with an absolute, unshakeable finality. "I am walking away from the company, my inheritance, and my mother."

"Nathan, don't be ridiculous," Emma said, stepping forward. "That company is your entire life! You worked fifteen years to build it!"

"It was my life when I was blind," Nathan said, taking a step toward her. "I thought building towers made me a man. But standing in that bakery, watching my five-year-old son tell his mother he didn't need bread so she wouldn't worry about money... that made me realize I am nothing. My empire is made of dust, Emma."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box. He set it beside the contract on the table.

Inside was the silver wedding band Emma had left behind on his desk five years ago.

"I don't expect you to forgive me today," Nathan said softly, his voice full of humility. "I don't expect you to let me be their father overnight. But I am not running away again. I am staying in Chicago. I will buy an apartment two blocks from here. I will pay off your medical debts through an anonymous trust so you never have to worry about a bill again. And I will spend every single day of my life earning the right to hear my sons call me Dad."

Emma looked at the silver ring, then up at Nathan. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks.

"It's not that easy, Nathan," she sobbed softly. "Your mother will destroy you if you abandon the Dubai deal. She will unleash every lawyer in the city."

"Let her try," Nathan smiled—a genuine, fierce smile that Emma hadn't seen in half a decade. "She fought a woman who had nothing to lose. Now she's fighting a man who has everything to fight for."
