Chapter 6 - The Fall of SophiaBy 2:00 AM, a heavy, freezing rain lashed against the rusted steel roof of the South Side Commercial Warehouse.

Inside the vast, shadow-filled industrial facility, Vincent Moretti stood alone in the center of the concrete floorboards, wearing his dark suit, his hands resting empty in his coat pockets.

Surrounding him in the shadows were twelve armed Genovese mercenaries carrying automatic submachine guns, led by Don Marco Genovese and Sophia Reynolds.

"You're a fool, Vincent," Sophia sneered, stepping out from behind a heavy shipping container, holding a suppressed sidearm. "You ruined my life tonight at the gala! You humiliated my son in front of all of Chicago!"

Vincent looked at her with zero fear, zero bitterness, and absolute, freezing disdain.

"You never loved me, Sophia," Vincent spoke softly, his deep baritone echoing off the corrugated iron walls. "You wanted my title, my money, and my empire. And I was stupid enough to trade a queen for a snake."

"Kill him!" Sophia screamed to the mercenaries.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The heavy steel roll-up doors at both ends of the warehouse didn't just open—they were blown inward by hydraulic breaching charges, sending sharp metal splinters and smoke billowing through the facility.

High-powered tactical floodlights illuminated the concrete floor, blinding the twelve Genovese mercenaries.

"FEDERAL SECURITY AND MORETTI SPECIAL OPERATORS! DON'T MOVE!" a thunderous voice echoed through the master speakers.

Stepping through the front smoke, flanked by forty fully armed tactical operators in dark Kevlar armor and six FBI Special Agents, was me.

I wore my dark wool coat, my posture tall, sovereign, and unbroken, holding a digital tablet connected to the federal wiretap grid.

Sophia dropped her gun.

CLATTER!

The sidearm hit the wet concrete floorboards with a dull metallic thud. Her face turned an ugly, paper-white shade of green as she thrashed her hands back in total, panic-stricken horror.

"CLAIRE...?! THE FBI?!" Sophia shrieking hysterically. "NO! NO! IT'S A MISTAKE!"

"It's not a mistake, Sophia," I spoke cleanly into the quiet warehouse. "Every word of your conspiracy with Marco Genovese was recorded at midnight. You're finished."

CLICK. CLICK.

Heavy steel handcuffs locked around Sophia Reynolds's and Marco Genovese's wrists behind their backs as they thrashed frantically, weeping in total, groveling defeat, dragged away through the high brass doors in chains to face lifetime federal RICO imprisonment without parole.
