Chapter 4 - The Digital Execution

Linda blinked, momentarily thrown off by the sudden shift in tone. "What... what did you say?"

Chloe pressed a single button on her tablet.

Instantly, the built-in stereo speakers throughout the entire ground floor of the house roared to life at maximum volume.

“Put her in her place today, Mason. If she fights back, hit her. I’ll be there first thing tomorrow morning to make sure she’s learned her lesson.”

Linda’s voice—crystal clear, unmistakable, and dripping with malicious intent—echoed off the kitchen walls.

Before Linda could process the voice message, the second audio file began to play: Mason’s panicked confession from the night before, detailing how his mother had instructed him to steal bank cards, control finances, and use physical abuse to enforce obedience.

And finally, the video clip of Linda’s triumphant confession from less than two minutes ago played on loop, capturing every arrogant, cruel word she had just spoken about breaking women's spirits and seizing their earnings.

The color drained entirely from Linda’s face. She staggered backward, her manicured hands flying to her mouth as the horrifying realization crashed over her.

"You... you recorded me?" Linda shrieked, her voice cracking with sudden panic. "You set us up!"

"Oh, not just you, Linda," Chloe said smoothly, stepping toward them with slow, measured steps. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and tapped the screen once more. "These files have already been dispatched to three separate locations: my personal legal counsel, Mason’s corporate ethics board at the architectural firm, and the local domestic violence intervention bureau."

Mason jumped up from his stool, knocking it over onto the floor. "Chloe, no! You can't do that! That will destroy my career! That will ruin my life!"

"Your life?" Chloe laughed, a sound so cold and sharp that it made both of them shudder. "Three days ago, you stood in this exact spot, smashed my mother's heirloom plate, and told me that a wife had to be beaten to stay obedient. Did you really think there wouldn't be a price to pay for that?"

Linda lunged forward, her maternal mask completely shattered, revealing a desperate, vicious harpy. She reached out to grab the tablet from Chloe’s hands. "Delete those files right now, you treacherous bitch, or I swear—"

Before Linda’s fingers could even brush the screen, Chloe sidestepped with effortless grace, caught Linda’s wrist in a firm, unbreakable lock, and gently guided her down into the nearest chair. It was a movement so practiced and controlled that Linda didn't even realize she had been subdued until she was sitting down, completely immobilized.

"I wouldn't try physical violence in front of a certified self-defense instructor, Linda," Chloe warned softly, leaning down so her face was inches from her mother-in-law's. "Especially not when the front door is wide open and your neighbors are already standing on the sidewalk, watching the commotion through the front window."

Linda froze. She turned her head toward the open front door and saw three neighbors standing by the walkway, whispering furiously among themselves as they held their smartphones up, recording every second of the spectacle.
