Chapter 1 - The Trap is Set

The cold hardwood floor beneath Mason Carter’s back felt like a rude awakening for a man who had spent three days believing he was the absolute king of his own castle. He stared up at his new wife, Chloe, whose face remained a mask of chilling, terrifying calm. The man who had roared with whiskey-soaked fury moments ago now found himself gasping for breath, pinned by a woman half his size who moved with the precision of a professional combat athlete.
Chloe stepped back, slipping her phone into her pocket with a deliberate, smooth motion. The digital files she had just captured were encrypted and auto-uploaded to a secure cloud server managed by her personal legal representation—a top-tier defense firm her uncle retained for high-stakes litigation.
Mason scrambled backward, his face flushed with a mixture of burning humiliation and rising panic. He clutched his bruised shoulder, his eyes wide as he looked at the shattered ceramic plates, the scattered rice, and the broken heirloom plate that had once belonged to Chloe’s mother.
"What... what are you?" Mason stammered, his voice cracking slightly. "You... you never said anything about martial arts. You said you taught at a community center!"
"I teach self-defense, Mason," Chloe replied, her voice steady and chillingly quiet. She walked over to the kitchen counter, picked up a fresh paper towel, and wiped a small speck of sauce off her sleeve. "And part of my curriculum involves neutralizing domestic threats. You just happened to be my first live demonstration of the week."
"You think you're clever, don't you?" Mason snarled, pulling himself up onto his feet while keeping a wary distance, terrified she might sweep his legs out from under him again. "My mom will be here at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. When she sees this mess—when she hears how you attacked your own husband—she’ll make sure your life in this house is a living hell. She runs this family, Chloe. And she’ll make sure you regret the day you ever crossed a Carter."

Chloe turned slowly, a slow, predatory smile touching her lips. "Good. Tell Linda to wear her best shoes. Because the show we're putting on tomorrow morning is going to be the performance of a lifetime."
She didn't wait for him to respond. She walked past him up the stairs, leaving him alone in the wreckage of his own toxic masculinity, completely unaware that the trap had already snapped shut and there was no escape.
