Chapter 6 - Healing WoundsThe fallout was massive, but the storm eventually passed. Evelyn was indicted on multiple federal charges and denied bail. The media narrative shifted instantly, painting Sophie not as a grifter, but as a tragic hero who fought a billionaire dynasty to get her child back.

But the hardest part was yet to come: telling Emma.
Liam and Sophie sat Emma down in the sunroom of the estate. The legal proceedings to officially recognize Sophie as the biological mother were underway, but emotional recognition was what truly mattered.
"Emma," Liam started gently, holding his daughter's hand. "Do you know how I always told you that you grew in another lady's tummy, but she couldn't take care of you, so I became your dad?"
Emma nodded, clutching her favorite stuffed bear.
"Well... we found out that the lady who had you, she loved you very, very much. She never wanted to give you away. Bad people lied to her." Liam took a deep breath. He looked at Sophie, who was terrified, tears brimming in her eyes. "Emma... Sophie is your tummy-mommy."
Emma blinked. She looked at Sophie, then back at Liam, her young mind processing the massive truth. Slowly, she slipped off the couch and walked over to Sophie.
"You really didn't want to give me away?" Emma whispered.
"Never," Sophie sobbed, dropping to her knees so she was eye-level with her daughter. "You were the best thing that ever happened to me. I thought about you every single day."
