Liam’s private investigators managed to track down Dr. Vance, who had conveniently retired to a luxury villa in the Bahamas shortly after Emma's adoption. Faced with the threat of federal trafficking charges, the cowardly doctor folded immediately.
He provided the missing puzzle pieces: Evelyn had paid the hospital administrator three million dollars to forge a death certificate for Sophie’s baby and bypass the legal adoption waiting lists.
"She didn't just steal my baby," Sophie said, her voice hollow as she looked at the bank statements spread across Liam's dining table. "She bought her."
"Because she knew I would never agree to an illegal adoption," Liam said, his jaw clenched in absolute fury. "She wanted complete control over me after my wife died. By 'giving' me a child, she thought she owned my loyalty forever."
But Evelyn wasn't done fighting. Desperate and realizing Liam was closing in, she orchestrated a leak to the press. The next morning, tabloid headlines screamed: BILLIONAIRE CEO HARBORS DELUSIONAL STALKER CLAIMING TO BE ADOPTED DAUGHTER'S MOTHER.
Paparazzi swarmed the gates of the estate. Child Protective Services arrived with a warrant, demanding to interview Emma.
For the first time, Sophie panicked. "They're going to take her away, Liam. Because I'm poor, because I have no power, they're going to take her and give her to Evelyn!"

It was the first time he had said our daughter. Sophie looked into his eyes, seeing the absolute, unyielding devotion there, and for the first time in eight years, she felt safe.
