Chapter 4 - The Corporate ExecutionThe morning sun cast a bright, crisp light across the Manhattan skyline. Inside the towering glass-and-steel headquarters of Apex Global Technologies, the atmosphere on the fifty-fifth floor was usually humming with high-octane corporate ambition.

Today, it was a tomb.

Liam stepped out of the private elevator, smoothing down the lapels of his expensive tailored suit. He looked tired, nursing a slight bruise on his jaw from Emma’s father’s punch, but he was wearing his boardroom armor. He had spent the morning on the phone with Paige, convincing her that the messy family blowout was just a temporary hurdle, and that once the divorce dust settled, they would be free.

He walked down the carpeted executive corridor toward his office, expecting his secretary to hand him his morning schedule and double-shot espresso.

Instead, his secretary’s desk was empty. Her computer monitor was black, and her personal belongings were already packed into a cardboard box.

Liam frowned. He reached for the handle of his office door, but before his fingers could touch the brass, a cold, sharp voice cut through the silence behind him.

"Don't bother opening it, Liam."

Liam spun around.

Standing ten feet away was Arthur Vance, the Chairman of Apex Global, flanked by two burly security guards in dark suits. Arthur’s face was carved from stone, his piercing blue eyes locked onto Liam with the freezing intensity of a firing squad.

Liam’s heart slammed against his ribs. He forced a weak, nervous smile. "Mr. Vance! Good morning. I... I wasn't expecting you on this floor today. Is there an issue with the Meridian acquisition?"

Arthur Vance didn't blink. He walked slowly toward Liam, stopping just three feet away. The sheer weight of the Chairman's presence made the air in the hallway feel thin and toxic.

"Turn around and put your hands behind your back, Liam," Arthur said, his voice terrifyingly calm.

Liam laughed nervously, taking a step back. "Sir? What is this? Is this a joke?"

Arthur raised a thick manila folder and hurled it directly at Liam’s chest. The folder burst open, scattering dense piles of paper across the polished marble floor.

Liam looked down.

His eyes scanned the top pages. Bank statements. Expense reports. Falsified supervisory signatures.

And right on top, a transcript of his phone call with Paige, complete with a QR code linking directly to the audio recording.

Color drained from Liam’s face so fast he looked like a corpse. His knees wobbled, and he grabbed the wall to keep from collapsing.

"Em—Emma..." Liam stammered, his voice turning into a high-pitched squeak. "This... this is a misunderstanding! My wife is vindictive, she fabricated these files out of spite because of a messy marital dispute—!"

"Your wife," Arthur Vance interrupted, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp growl, "is a forensic accounting genius who walked into my office at 8:00 a.m. with an airtight federal securities fraud package that proves you’ve been embezzling company funds to finance your mistress's lifestyle."

Arthur turned to the security guards. "Escort him out. Strip him of his keycard, freeze his corporate accounts, and notify federal marshals that we are formally pressing charges for corporate theft and wire fraud."

"No! Please! Mr. Vance, give me a chance!" Liam screamed, lunging forward, but the two security guards grabbed him by the shoulders with crushing force, wrenching his arms behind his back.

As they dragged him down the long hallway toward the service elevators, Liam caught a glimpse of himself in the mirrored glass wall—ruined, desperate, and utterly destroyed.
