Chapter 6 - The Reckoning in CourtThe Denver District Courtroom was packed to capacity. Media outlets, financial bloggers, and high-society gossips filled the wooden benches, all eager to witness the spectacular downfall of the Voss family and the corporate betrayal masterminded by Ryan and Savannah.

I sat at the plaintiff's table beside Marcus Vance, wearing a sharp navy-blue executive suit, my seven-month baby bump clearly visible beneath the tailored fabric. I looked calm, composed, and untouchable.

Across the aisle sat Ryan. He looked ten years older. His hair was messy, his designer suit was wrinkled, and dark, hollow circles bruised the skin beneath his eyes. Beside him sat a public defender appointed after his high-priced private counsel dropped him for non-payment. Further down the row, Savannah Calloway sat with her head bowed, hiding behind oversized sunglasses, refusing to look at the cameras flashing from the gallery.

Judge Harrison, a stern, silver-haired jurist with a reputation for zero tolerance on financial fraud and domestic violence, banged his gavel.

"We are here today to hear arguments on Case No. 2026-CR-8841: State of Colorado versus Ryan Voss and Savannah Calloway, alongside civil motions for asset forfeiture and restraining orders filed by plaintiff Claire Sterling," Judge Harrison announced, his sharp eyes sweeping the courtroom.

For three grueling hours, Marcus presented an airtight case. He displayed the bank statements showing the unauthorized 1.4-million-dollar wire transfers; he played the audio recordings of Ryan threatening me over the phone; and finally, on the massive courtroom monitors, he played the HD security footage from my penthouse on New Year’s Eve.

When the video played—showing Grant pressing the burning cigarette into my stomach while Ryan pinned my wrists—a collective gasp echoed through the gallery. Several reporters covered their mouths in horror. Even Judge Harrison’s face darkened with visible disgust.

When the prosecution rested, Ryan’s public defender stood up, looking entirely defeated. "Your Honor, Mr. Voss expresses deep remorse for the domestic misunderstanding, and regarding the financial transfers—"

"Mr. Voss doesn't need to speak," Judge Harrison interrupted coldly, leaning forward over his bench. He looked directly down at Ryan, who shrank back into his chair. "Mr. Voss, in my thirty years on the bench, I have rarely witnessed such a despicable combination of cowardly domestic abuse, unmitigated greed, and calculated financial betrayal against a woman who literally provided every luxury you and your family enjoyed."

Ryan swallowed hard, unable to meet the judge's gaze.

"Furthermore," Judge Harrison continued, raising his voice, "the physical assault perpetrated against Mrs. Sterling and her unborn child elevates these charges to severe felony levels."

The judge banged his gavel with a sharp, echoing crack.

"I hereby grant the full asset forfeiture of the Aspen estate, transferring all deeds, titles, and holdings permanently to Claire Sterling. All frozen corporate and personal accounts remain in Mrs. Sterling's exclusive possession. Furthermore, Ryan Voss is sentenced to eight years in a state correctional facility without the possibility of parole for grand larceny, wire fraud, and domestic assault. Savannah Calloway is sentenced to five years for accessory to financial embezzlement. Court adjourned."

The gavel fell. Ryan slumped forward, burying his face in his hands as federal marshals stepped forward to snap steel handcuffs around his wrists. Savannah wept quietly as she, too, was taken into custody.

As I walked out of the courtroom surrounded by my legal team and security detail, flashbulbs blinded me from every angle. But I didn't look down. I held my head high, resting one hand gently over my growing belly, knowing that justice had finally been served.
