Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Houston Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, shipping executives, municipal judges, and syndicate capos gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Texas Maritime & Logistics Assembly.
Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark red designer suit, holding a silver pen, was sixty-year-old Carlos Mendoza. Beside him sat his arrogant son, Diego Mendoza, smirking as they prepared to sign the corporate acquisition papers that would absorb the Reyes shipping berths into Mendoza Global.
"Gentlemen!" Carlos announced into the central microphone, his voice dripping with condescending authority, "today we ratify the permanent commercial acquisition of the South Texas Border Berths—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Victor Marshall.
He wore a dark bespoke charcoal suit, his broad six-foot-four frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside him, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her brown eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was Donna Clara Reyes-Marshall.
She held a sleek leather folder in her hand, her posture regal, her presence radiating an unshakeable, diamond-hard power that dominated the entire room.
Diego Mendoza dropped his silver pen.
CRASH!
The heavy pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Carlos Mendoza stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the wall.
"C-CARLOS...?! VICTOR?! CLARA?!" Diego stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS JUST A PENNILESS WAITRESS!"
"She isn't a penniless waitress, Diego," Victor announced flatly, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Executive Chairwoman of the Reyes-Marshall Heritage Trust... and the owner of your entire shipping network."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Carlos Mendoza’s trembling hands:
TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Reyes Trust Deeds, transferring 100% controlling common stock equity directly to Chairwoman Clara Reyes-Marshall.
ARREST WARRANTS: Federal arrest warrants served on Carlos Mendoza, Diego Mendoza, and Garrick for Premeditated Homicide (in the death of Clara's father), Human Trafficking Conspiracy, Extortion, and $40 Million Wire Fraud.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Mendoza Global.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Diego shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "YOU CAN'T SEIZE MY BERTHS FOR A WAITRESS'S ACCUSATION!"
"She isn't an accusation, Diego," Victor corrected deadpan, stepping beside my chair, wrapping his broad, warm arm securely around my waist, pulling me flush against his side. "She is my wife. And she owns your entire life."
