Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeOn a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late May 2026, the sweeping oceanfront grounds of the Moretti Estate in Long Island were decorated with blooming white orchids, yellow sunflowers, and sunlit tables for our formal rededication ceremony and my thirty-first birthday celebration.

The dark, terrifying shadow of broken soup bowls, cold marble floors, threats in the dark, and fear was permanently, historically erased from our lives.

Over three hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, Bridget Colton, Sal, Marcus, my mother (now resting comfortably in a wheelchair, smiling brightly under the spring sun), and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the stone patio, enjoying fine food, vintage wine, and live acoustic music.

I stood near the marble balustrade wearing an exquisite floor-length ivory silk dress that caught the soft Atlantic breeze.

Adrian Moretti walked out onto the terrace wearing a tailored dark suit, holding two glasses of sunlit champagne, stepping up beside me near the balustrade.

He wrapped his broad, warm arm around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid frame, leaning down to press a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Adrian whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of Long Island Sound stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, leaning my head comfortably back against his broad chest.

"I was thinking about a brass fireplace poker, Adrian," I answered softly, a radiant, beautiful smile lighting up my face. "And how sleeping outside your door brought me straight to my true home."

Adrian offered a soft, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his severe, handsome features.

"You saved my life, Claire," Adrian promised, his deep baritone thick with emotion, pulling me closer under the spring sun. "And I will spend the rest of my life making sure you never freeze again."

Sal raised his champagne glass from the primary table, his clear, strong baritone carrying cleanly across the quiet grounds.

"To Don Adrian and Donna Claire Moretti!" Sal toasted with deep, genuine pride. "The sovereign family who broke the dark, conquered the storm, and claimed their true home!"

"To Adrian and Claire!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, dozens of crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.

Across the dark, sparkling blue waters of the Sound, the evening sun set beneath the horizon, painting the sky in sweeping tapestries of gold, rose, and deep sapphire.

There were no arrogant traitors threatening women in dark kitchens. There were no secret scratches on doorframes or cold nights spent in fear. There were no tears, debts, or dark shadows keeping our hearts from peace.

The quiet, terrified housekeeper was dead forever. The sovereign Donna, administrator, and queen had claimed her true home.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped safe in the arms of the man who loved her, watching her mother and her family bloom under the spring sun, Claire Moretti knew that her life, her heart, and her legacy were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
