Chapter 6 - The Unraveling of the CartelThe takedown of Arthur Sterling’s international syndicate was swift, brutal, and utterly comprehensive.

Within forty-eight hours of the recorded call, Swiss financial authorities—acting on mutual legal assistance treaties backed by the U.S. Treasury Department—froze Arthur’s personal accounts, seized his Geneva holding companies, and placed his primary asset managers under criminal investigation.

The press conference I had scheduled for noon didn't end in the dissolution of our patents; instead, it became the stage for a dramatic corporate restructuring where I officially signed over eighty percent of my voting stock into the independent family trust, naming Sloan as the sole chairperson and majority shareholder of Lennox Global.

For the first time in its history, the empire wasn't built on cutthroat acquisition or backroom deals. It was built on redemption.

Two weeks after Arthur’s arrest, the weather in Manhattan finally broke into the warm, golden warmth of late spring.

The penthouse was quiet—not with the suffocating silence of fear and suspicion that had greeted me upon my return, but with the warm, vibrant hum of domestic life.

I sat at the kitchen island, reviewing architectural blueprints for our country home upstate—a quiet place with wide lawns, no security keypads, and a nursery that looked out over the Hudson River.

Footsteps approached softly from behind.

A pair of slim, warm arms wrapped gently around my neck, and Sloan rested her chin on my shoulder, looking down at the blueprints.

"Upstate?" she murmured softly, her breath warm against my ear. "You're actually willing to leave Manhattan?"

"Manhattan is for business, Sloan," I said, turning slightly in my chair to look up at her. Her green eyes were bright, clear, and free of the shadows that had haunted them for months. "Our life is wherever you and Willa are."

She smiled, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss against my lips. "It's a good plan, Vincent. But you're still going to have to prove you know how to change a diaper without calling me for backup."

"That," I laughed, pulling her down onto my lap, "is a hostile takeover I am fully prepared to manage."
