Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the GalaBy 7:00 p.m. that evening, the grand ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel in downtown Chicago was packed with three hundred of the city’s highest corporate leaders, politicians, and media executives.

The event was the annual Moretti Infrastructure Gala—the exact venue where Adrian had intended to finalize his multi-billion-dollar port merger with Arthur Russo.
Vanessa Russo stood near the front stage wearing an emerald silk gown, posing for photographers while holding her newborn daughter in an expensive silver stroller.
At 7:15 p.m., Adrian stepped onto the stage wearing an immaculate black suit. His face was pale, his eyes disheveled beneath his calm composure, his hands tight against his lapels as he reached the master microphone.
Before he could speak, the heavy double doors at the rear of the ballroom were thrown open.
Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Rebecca Hayes and four high-ranking federal process servers, was me.
I wore a breathtaking, floor-length midnight-blue silk gown that draped gracefully over my figure. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my posture royal, my hazel eyes holding zero fear.
And walking directly beside my right shoulder were two uniformed officers from the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
The entire ballroom fell into a sudden, spellbound silence.
Cameras flashed rapidly, lights illuminating the room as journalists recognized the woman who had never appeared in a public photograph for eight years.
Vanessa Russo dropped her champagne glass, the crystal shattering against the marble floorboards. "Who is that woman?! Security! Remove her!"

Rebecca Hayes stepped forward cleanly, holding a thick leather folder, reading the official court order aloud into the silent hall:
"By order of the Circuit Court of Cook County, all secondary corporate merger proceedings involving Moretti Infrastructure are hereby suspended pending the outcome of the marital dissolution and bigamy investigation of Adrian Thomas Moretti!"
