Chapter 7 - Epilogue — Sovereign of the SkylineThree months later.

The rain drummed a steady, soothing rhythm against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the penthouse office on the fiftieth floor of Vale Holdings—which had officially been rebranded as Sterling-Mercer Global.

I sat behind a massive mahogany executive desk, wearing a sharp, tailored cream-colored pantsuit, reviewing the final restructuring documents for the downtown shipping ports.

Down below, the Chicago skyline stretched out endlessly, glittering through the mist.

Dominic Vance was currently residing in a modest two-bedroom apartment on the industrial south side of the city, working as a mid-level logistics coordinator while facing federal audits for corporate fraud and asset misappropriation. His mother-in-law had stopped calling months ago, and Vanessa Quinn had long since moved on to a younger, wealthier executive at a rival firm.

They had tried to break me with a single word. Finished.

Instead, they had given me my freedom.

My office door clicked open. Richard walked in, holding two steaming cups of artisanal coffee, setting one gently on my desk before walking over to look out at the skyline.

“The board meeting in New York is confirmed for Monday,” Richard said, glancing back at me with a proud smile. “They’re ready to hand over the European ports.”

“Let them,” I replied calmly, signing my name across the legal document with a heavy, expensive fountain pen. Evelyn Sterling. No hyphens. No attachments. Just my own name, written in bold, unshakeable ink.

I picked up my coffee, walked over to the glass wall, and looked out over the city that had once tried to swallow me whole.

I wasn't the woman who stood in this room waiting for a cheating husband to come home. I was the architect of my own destiny.

And as the sun broke through the storm clouds, casting a golden glow over the skyline, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:

No one would ever lock me out of my own life again.
