Chapter 6 - The Gala of the Savannah StarIn late September 2026, sixteen months after that fateful night, the grand ballroom of the St. Regis Atlanta was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Vance Maritime & Civic Foundation Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated my tall, radiant figure, was me.
Around my neck hung my late father Arthur Vance's vintage silver signet pendant, my dark hair falling in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.
Beside the stage stood Margaret Bickford, looking healthy, radiant, and peaceful in an ivory lace gown, alongside Bridget Colton and Marcus Vance.
I adjusted the microphone, my clear, silver baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Sixteen months ago, a man slapped me across the face and told me to know my place," I announced to the silent ballroom, my voice carrying a quiet, diamond-hard authority. "And on that night, I learned that a woman's true place isn't in the shadow of a tyrant... it is standing tall, breaking the dark, and leading an empire."
I held my champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
