Chapter 3 - The Traitor in the PenthouseThe private penthouse office atop the Moretti Tower in downtown Manhattan was a fortress of glass, steel, and dark walnut. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, the city lights flickered like a million distant stars, indifferent to the violent currents shifting through the underworld below.

Marcus Vance stood by the glass, adjusting his silk tie. He looked immaculate in a bespoke charcoal suit, his silver hair neatly combed. But beneath his polished exterior, a subtle layer of nervous tension rippled through his posture.
When the heavy private elevator doors slid open, Dominic stepped out into the room. He wasn't alone. Amelia walked right beside him, carrying the leather journal tucked securely against her chest, flanked by Silas and two armed enforcers.
Marcus turned around, forcing a warm, corporate smile to his face.
"Dominic! You requested an audit at two in the morning?" Marcus chuckled nervously, his eyes darting toward Amelia before snapping back to his boss. "And... bringing a restaurant employee up to the executive suite? Is everything alright with the Sapphire Room catering?"
Dominic walked across the imported Persian rug, stopping just six feet away from Marcus. He didn't sit down behind his massive mahogany desk. He simply placed his hands in his pockets and stared at his chief financial officer with eyes that looked straight through him.
"Cut the act, Marcus," Dominic said flatly. "The game is over."
Marcus’s smile faltered, though he held his ground with practiced executive arrogance. "I beg your pardon? What game? Dominic, if this is about the Q3 logistics deficit, I already sent the revised projections to your—"
"I’m not talking about logistics," Dominic interrupted, his voice cutting through the quiet room like a scalpel. He gestured toward Amelia. "Miss Reed here has spent the last hour translating a rather interesting journal recovered from Constantine Volkov. It details a rather lucrative partnership between a high-ranking member of my organization and an international arms smuggling cartel."
Color drained rapidly from Marcus’s face. The polished corporate facade cracked, revealing the desperate, cornered criminal underneath. He took a half-step backward until his back was nearly pressed against the glass.
"That's... that's absurd," Marcus stammered, his voice losing its composure. "You're taking the word of a waitress over fifteen years of loyal service? Where is the proof? Where are the financial wire receipts?"
"Right here," Amelia said step-forward, opening the journal to page forty-two and holding it up under the desk lamp. "The cryptographic signature matches the offshore accounts registered under your mother’s maiden name in the Cayman Islands, Marcus. My father cataloged your signature back in 2008 when you tried to buy his encryption software for a shell company in Geneva."
Marcus stared at the page. The game was definitively, irrevocably lost.
Suddenly, Marcus’s hand lunged toward his side pocket, flashing toward a concealed micro-pistol.
He didn't even clear leather.
Silas was already moving before Marcus’s fingers touched the grip. With brutal, efficient speed, Silas closed the distance, slammed Marcus’s arm against the edge of the walnut desk, and kicked his legs out from under him.
Marcus hit the floor with a heavy thud, gasping for air as Silas pinned him face-down, twisting his arm behind his back with bone-crushing pressure.
"You stupid, arrogant fool," Marcus choked out against the carpet. "You think killing me or locking me away stops anything? Vanguard International is already moving on your docks! By sunrise, your shipping lanes will be seized by federal marshals and Constantine’s buyers! You’ve already lost, Dominic!"
Dominic looked down at the man who had stolen from him, betrayed him, and conspired with the very men who had murdered Amelia’s father. His expression didn't change; it remained terrifyingly calm.
"Vanguard International is currently answering federal subpoenas for corporate terrorism and asset forfeiture," Dominic replied smoothly. "Your cousin Victor Vance was detained at Pier 42 thirty minutes ago. Your accounts are frozen. And your empire is currently being dismantled brick by brick."

Marcus went completely rigid on the floor, the final trace of hope evaporating from his mind.
"Silas," Dominic commanded, turning away. "Take him down to the basement holding cells with Constantine. Let them discuss their corporate merger in the dark."
