Chapter 2 - The Ghost of the DocksFinn took three fast steps forward, his face flushed with panicked confusion. "Boss! Think about what you're doing! Gideon Blake is marrying Chloe Collins tonight to merge the shipping routes! If we keep the wrong sister, we're declaring war on both the Collins family and the Blake dynasty without an asset to leverage!"

Declan turned around slowly.

His storm-gray eyes held a cold, absolute fire that made Finn freeze dead in his tracks.

"Mave Collins is the asset, Finn," Declan declared, every word dropped like a heavy block of cold iron onto the concrete floorboards. "Gideon Blake didn't want Chloe for her intelligence or her charm. He wanted her because her father promised him the primary port deeds registered under the Collins estate."

Declan reached into his inner jacket pocket, pulling out a thick, leather-bound dossier bound by red judicial seals, throwing it flat onto the wooden chair Mave had just vacated.

"Those port deeds don't belong to Chloe," Declan revealed flatly. "And they don't belong to her father. They were placed in an irrevocable private trust eighteen years ago by Mave's late mother... Clara Vance Collins."

Mave’s breath caught in her throat. She gripped the lapels of Declan’s heavy coat against her chest, her hazel eyes widening in total, disbelieving shock. "My... my mother's trust...?"

"Your father hid the trust papers three weeks after your mother died, Mave," Declan explained gently, turning his gaze back to her face, his tone softening into a deep, genuine warmth. "He spent fifteen years using your sister as the public face of the family while keeping you in the background as an unpaid domestic servant... all while forging your signature on secondary commercial leases."

Tears of wild, overwhelming realization burned behind Mave’s eyelids.

All the years of being pushed into back rooms, wearing hand-me-down clothes, enduring Chloe’s petty cruelty, and being told she was worthless—it wasn't because she was unwanted.

It was because her father and sister were terrified that the second she realized her legal power, their entire artificial empire would crumble into dust.

Declan took one step closer, stepping between her and the warehouse door, his broad posture forming an unbroken, iron wall of protection around her frame.

"Five years ago, Victor Collins—your father—ordered a hit on my secondary shipping terminal in North Brooklyn," Declan revealed softly. "And when the warehouse burned... I found out who really held the legal deeds to those docks. I've been waiting five years to find Clara Vance's real daughter."

He looked into her eyes, his storm-gray gaze holding a quiet, sacred promise.

"You aren't going back to that bridal suite, Mave," Declan promised. "Tonight... you claim your throne."
