Chapter 3 - The Unmasking of the AssistantAt 2:00 PM that afternoon, the glass-walled executive lobby of Bennett & Sterling Architecture on Michigan Avenue was in total, chaotic upheaval.

Sophia Reynolds—Russell’s twenty-eight-year-old personal assistant—stood near the marble reception desk, holding an expensive leather handbag, screaming frantically at two private movers from Vance Security who were sealing Russell’s corner office.

"THIS IS ILLEGAL!" Sophia shrieked, her manicured fingers shaking as she pointed at the movers. "MR. BENNETT IS THE MANAGING PARTNER! YOU CAN'T LOCK HIS OFFICE!"

The heavy double glass entrance doors of the headquarters opened softly.

Walking down the central marble aisle, flanked by Prosecutor Marcus Vance and two uniformed federal officers, was me.

I wore a breathtaking, custom-tailored dark navy silk coat over a tailored cream dress that celebrated my recovered, radiant figure. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.

Behind us, a private nurse pushed Maya’s sunlit velvet stroller.

Sophia went paper-white. Her jaw sagged open as she stared at the woman she had spent two years mocking in private text messages with Russell.

"Claire... I mean, Mrs. Bennett...!" Sophia stammered, taking a panicked step backward. "What... what are you doing here?! Russell is at the precinct clearing up a misunderstanding!"

Bridget Colton stepped forward, opening a leather portfolio, sliding a stack of legal notices flat onto the marble counter:

EVICTION ORDER: Immediate revocation of Sophia Reynolds' lease at the River North penthouse, which was purchased using embezzled trust capital.

CORPORATE TERMINATION: Formal termination of Sophia Reynolds' employment contract at Bennett & Sterling for gross corporate misconduct and accessory to financial fraud.

CRIMINAL SUBPOENA: A federal subpoena ordering Sophia to appear before the Grand Jury regarding $800,000 in off-ledger wire transfers executed through her personal accounts.

Two uniformed officers stepped forward, holding heavy steel handcuffs.

"Sophia Reynolds," Officer Hayes declared coldly. "You are under arrest for Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud and Accessory to Embezzlement."

The cold steel cuffs locked tightly around Sophia’s wrists behind her back. She thrashed and wept pathetic, groveling pleas as officers dragged her out of the Michigan Avenue headquarters in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news cameras capturing her downfall for the evening news.
