Chapter 5 - The Corporate CoupWhile Nathan and Maya found solace in the quiet warmth of the community clinic, the Amos mansion was preparing for war.

The morning sun broke through the clouds, but inside Evelyn Amos’s private office, the atmosphere was freezing. Evelyn sat behind her desk, staring coldly at her chief corporate lawyer, Mr. Vance, who had just placed a thick stack of financial documents before her.

"Explain this to me again," Evelyn commanded, her voice dangerously quiet.

"Mrs. Amos, it appears that over the past six months, a significant block of voting shares in Amos Enterprises has been quietly acquired on the open market through an anonymous offshore holding entity," the lawyer explained nervously, adjusting his glasses. "Today, that entity officially crossed the fifty-one percent threshold."

Evelyn’s face turned the color of ash. She stood up so fast her chair screeched against the floor. "Fifty-one percent?! Who?! Who has enough capital to buy a controlling stake in my empire?!"

"We don't know the exact identity yet, Madam," the lawyer stammered. "The corporate filings are hidden behind Swiss trusts and high-level proxies. But whoever it is... they have just called an emergency shareholder meeting for this afternoon. They intend to strip the CEO of voting powers."

Clara, who had just walked into the office, dropped her designer handbag onto the floor. "Strip you of power, Mother? But that's impossible! We own this company! This empire was built by our family!"

"Not anymore," a calm, deep voice echoed from the doorway.

Evelyn and Clara spun around. Standing in the doorway was Nathan.

He wasn't wearing his usual casual clothes or looking like the obedient, exhausted son they always controlled. He wore a sharp, tailored charcoal suit, his posture tall, confident, and utterly fearless. Standing right beside him, wearing a simple yet elegant white blazer and dress pants, was Maya.

Clara let out a shrill laugh of disbelief. "Have you both lost your minds?! You brought her back here?! Mother, have security throw them both out into the street right now!"

"Security won't answer your calls, Clara," Nathan said calmly, walking into the center of the office. He pulled a sleek leather folder from his jacket and tossed it onto his mother's mahogany desk.

Evelyn slowly looked down at the document. Her hands trembled as she opened it.

Inside was the official ownership certificate of the mysterious offshore holding entity that now controlled fifty-one percent of Amos Enterprises. The primary beneficiary and controlling shareholder was listed clearly under a different name—not an Amos, but an independent trust established three days ago, funded entirely by an anonymous multi-billion-dollar international tech venture that Nathan had secretly founded and managed independently for years without his mother ever knowing.

"You..." Evelyn choked out, her breath catching in her throat as she stared at her son in absolute horror. "You built a tech conglomerate behind my back?"

"You always told me that money and power were the only things that mattered, Mother," Nathan said, his voice cold and steady. "You taught me how to survive in your world. But you forgot one thing: I never wanted to destroy people to get to the top. I wanted to build something real."

Nathan turned his gaze toward Maya, who stood beside him with quiet, unshakeable strength.

"When you threw Maya out onto the street last night," Nathan continued, looking back at his mother, "you signed the death warrant of your corporate monopoly. Every dollar of leverage you had is now tied to my voting block. Effective immediately, you are no longer the CEO of Amos Enterprises."

"You can't do this to me!" Evelyn shrieked, losing her aristocratic composure for the first time in decades as she slammed her fists onto the desk. "I raised you! I gave you everything! You are nothing without this family name!"

"No, Mother," Nathan said quietly, walking up to the edge of the desk and looking down at the woman who had traded humanity for gold. "I was never nothing. I was just someone who was waiting for the right person to show me what it means to be alive."

Nathan extended his hand toward Maya. She placed her hand gently in his, her fingers locking tightly with his.

"Let's go home, Maya," Nathan said softly.

"We have no home here, Nathan," Maya reminded him gently.

"We do now," Nathan smiled. "A real one."
