Chapter 2 - The Orphan Girl Arrives

Morning sunlight poured through the massive glass windows of the Amos mansion, painting the polished marble floors with a golden glow.
Servants hurried from one corner of the house to another, making sure everything was spotless before Mrs. Evelyn Amos returned.
She had left early that morning without telling anyone where she was going.
Even Nathan was surprised.
His mother never left the house without informing the family.
"Where did Mom go?" Nathan asked one of the housekeepers.
"I'm sorry, sir. She didn't tell us," the woman replied politely.
Nathan nodded and continued reading a medical journal, unaware that his mother's decision that morning would completely change his life.
---
Several hours earlier...
Mrs. Evelyn's expensive black SUV slowly stopped in front of a quiet orphanage on the outskirts of the city.
Children played happily in the dusty compound despite owning almost nothing.
Their laughter echoed through the air.
The orphanage director welcomed her warmly.
"You're welcome, Mrs. Evelyn."
"I came because I need someone," Evelyn replied calmly.
The director smiled.
"We have many children waiting to be adopted."
Evelyn quickly shook her head.
"No... I'm not here to adopt."
The smile on the woman's face slowly disappeared.
"I'm looking for a hardworking young girl... someone who can clean, cook and obey instructions."
The director hesitated before calling one of the girls.
A few moments later...
A slim young lady walked slowly into the office.
She couldn't have been more than nineteen.
She wore an old faded dress that had been carefully washed many times.
Her slippers were worn out.
Yet there was something beautiful about her.
Not because of expensive clothes...
But because of the kindness written all over her face.
"What's your name?" Evelyn asked.
"My name is Maya, ma."
"How long have you been here?"
"Since I was little."
"You have no family?"
Maya lowered her head.
"I don't know any."
Silence filled the room.
Deep inside, Maya prayed this woman had come to give her a better life.
She had spent years dreaming of leaving the orphanage.
Not because she hated it...
But because she longed to belong somewhere.
Even if it meant working hard every day.
Evelyn stood up.
"You'll come with me."
Maya's eyes widened.
"M... me?"
"Yes."
Tears gathered in Maya's eyes.
For the first time in many years...
She believed heaven had remembered her.
She thanked everyone at the orphanage before entering Evelyn's luxury vehicle.
As the car drove away...
Maya looked back through the window.
She smiled through her tears.
"Thank you for taking care of me," she whispered softly.
She never imagined that the biggest battle of her life was waiting beyond the gates of the mansion.
---
Back at the Amos mansion...
The expensive gate slowly opened.
Every servant rushed outside.
Nathan also walked toward the entrance after hearing the sound of the arriving vehicle.
The SUV stopped.
Mrs. Evelyn stepped out gracefully.
Then...
Another door opened.
A shy young lady slowly climbed down.
She held a small travelling bag close to her chest.
Her eyes moved around nervously as she admired the magnificent mansion standing before her.
She had never seen anything so beautiful.
Nathan looked at her with surprise.
His sister, Clara, frowned immediately.
"Mom... who is she?" Clara asked.
Evelyn answered without emotion.
"She's the new maid."
The word hit Maya's heart.
Not daughter.
Not family.
Not even guest.
Just...
"The maid."
Clara walked around Maya, looking her up and down before letting out a mocking laugh.
"She really looks like someone from the village."
Several servants laughed quietly.
Maya forced a smile and lowered her head.
She had promised herself she would remain humble no matter what happened.
Nathan noticed the sadness in her eyes.
For some reason...
He felt sorry for the quiet girl standing alone with nothing except a small bag and silent tears hidden behind her smile.
Little did he know...
That the same girl everyone ignored would one day become the greatest battle between him and his family.

And the mansion that welcomed Maya as a servant...
Would someday witness a love powerful enough to shake its very foundation.
