Chapter 7 - Sunrise over São Paulo

Six months later, the morning sun broke over the skyline of São Paulo, casting a warm, golden glow across the manicured lawns of a quiet estate in the upscale Jardins district.

The heavy iron gates of the Vila Alpina crematorium were nothing more than a bad memory, a dark chapter sealed away forever in the federal court records where Dr. Hernan Silva and Gustavo were currently facing consecutive life sentences without parole for attempted murder, human trafficking, and corporate conspiracy. The generational estate trust had been legally reassigned solely to Ana and her newborn son, securing their future beyond any shadow of greed.

Inside the bright, airy nursery of their new home, the soft melodies of a bossa nova record played gently from the corner turntable.

Marcos stood by the window, sipping a cup of coffee, watching the morning traffic hum peacefully in the distance.

Behind him, sitting in a comfortable rocking chair by the crib, Ana laughed softly as little Miguel—now a chubby, bright-eyed six-month-old with a shock of dark hair—grabbed hold of her finger and refused to let go.

Ana looked up, catching Marcos’s reflection in the windowpane. She smiled, a radiant, untouchable expression of peace that made all the horrors of the past year dissolve into nothingness.

Marcos walked over, kneeling beside the rocking chair. He placed his hand gently over Ana’s hand, right where she held their son.

“What are you thinking about?” Ana asked softly, resting her head against his shoulder.

“Just how lucky I am,” Marcos whispered, kissing the top of her head. “To have the two people I love most right here where they belong.”

Miguel let out a happy gurgle, kicking his little legs in agreement, as the golden morning light wrapped around them, promising a future that nothing in this world could ever take away again.
