Chapter 6 - The Fall of KingsleyThe final shareholders' meeting of Kingsley Technologies was not broadcast on television, but the rumors vibrating through Wall Street were enough to send shockwaves across the financial district.

Inside the grand auditorium on the thirty-fifth floor, rows of institutional investors, journalists, and board members sat in tense silence.
Grant Kingsley sat at the defense table alone.
Sienna was gone—having fled to her parents’ home in Connecticut after federal agents seized her passport. His mother, Eleanor, had checked herself into a private wellness clinic in Palm Beach, claiming exhaustion from “family distress.”
The doors at the back of the auditorium opened, and Dominic Moretti walked in. He wasn't alone. Walking beside him was the newly appointed board chair, flanked by federal prosecutors and corporate liquidators.
Grant stood up, his face pale, his eyes bloodshot, his tailored suit hanging loosely off his frame as if he had lost twenty pounds in a week.
“This is an illegal coup!” Grant shouted, his voice echoing off the wood-paneled walls. “You manipulated the stock! You conspired with regulatory agencies to freeze my accounts! I built this company from a garage in Palo Alto!”
Dominic stopped twenty feet from the table. He looked at Grant with the cold, detached pity one might reserve for a stray animal caught in traffic.
“You didn’t build an empire, Grant,” Dominic said, his voice carrying effortlessly across the silent room. “You built a house of cards on top of other people’s graves. You thought you could crush a woman’s spirit, rewrite her medical history, and throw her away when she stopped serving your vanity.”
Dominic stepped closer, lowering his voice so only Grant could hear.
“And the worst part of your pathetic little tragedy? You didn't even realize that the woman you tried to destroy was the only reason you ever mattered in the first place.”
The corporate liquidator stepped forward, placing a single manila folder on the table in front of Grant.
“ Mr. Kingsley, your resignation and asset forfeiture agreement are ready for signature. Effective immediately, all voting shares are transferred to Moretti Holdings. Refusal to sign will result in immediate execution of the federal indictments currently sitting on the U.S. Attorney’s desk.”

Grant stared at the papers. His hands shook violently. Slowly, agonizingly, he picked up the Montblanc pen—the same pen he had used to sign our prenuptial agreement six years ago—and scratched his signature onto the bottom line.
As the ink dried, the last vestige of the great Grant Kingsley dissolved into history.
