Chapter 4 - The False Savior(Focus: Serena Vale attempts a desperate play to blackmail Amelia, only to find out Amelia already holds all the cards; the public exposure of the affair.)

With Julian locked inside a federal holding cell pending a multi-million-dollar bail hearing, Serena Vale found herself completely abandoned. The high-society friends who had previously invited her to exclusive Hamptons parties blocked her number. Her luxury apartment, paid for by Grant Enterprises' corporate funds, was sealed by the bank.

But Serena wasn't the type to go down without a fight. She believed she still possessed the ultimate weapon: leverage.

On Thursday afternoon, she used her one permitted phone call from her defense attorney's office to demand a private meeting with me at my Hudson River estate, threatening to leak "highly damaging personal data" to the press if I didn't drop the theft charges against her.

I agreed to meet her. I wanted to see the final act of the tragedy she had authored.

Serena walked into my sunlit morning room, accompanied by her nervous lawyer. She was no longer wearing the glamorous designer dresses from the gala; she looked disheveled, her eyes bloodshot, her hands gripping a thick manila envelope against her chest.

"You think you’ve won, Amelia?" Serena sneered, refusing the tea my housekeeper offered. She slammed the envelope onto the table between us. "Inside this file are twelve years of Julian’s private diaries, text logs, and recordings. It proves he never loved you. It contains intimate details about your marriage, your medical history, your private insecurities, and exactly what he said about you behind your back. If you don't withdraw your statement to the police regarding that sapphire bracelet, I will sell this file to every tabloid in New York. Your elegant reputation will be completely smeared by tomorrow morning."

I looked down at the envelope, then up at Serena, my expression completely blank.

"You think my reputation is tied to Julian's opinion of me, Serena?" I asked softly.

"It will ruin you!" she shouted, her voice cracking with desperation. "The whole world will know how pathetic you were, begging him to stay, ignoring the obvious clues for years!"

I slowly slid a tablet across the table toward her. The screen was pulled up to New York's primary news outlet.

"I think you’re a few hours too late, Serena," I said.

Serena frowned, grabbing the tablet. Her eyes scanned the front-page headline, and her jaw dropped in horror.

The headline read: [EXCLUSIVE: THE ARCHITECT OF REVENGE — AMELIA VANCE RELEASES FULL FINANCIAL AND PERSONAL TRANSPARENCY ARCHIVE REGARDING GRANT ENTERPRISES.]

I hadn't waited for her to leak anything. I had spent the previous night publishing the entire history of Julian's betrayals myself—not as a victim, but as a clinical, powerful expose on corporate and marital gaslighting. I had shared the hotel bills, the text messages, and the records of how Julian used corporate charity funds to purchase gifts for his mistresses. I turned the entire scandal into an educational campaign for financial abuse awareness, donating $10 million to women's legal defense funds in the process.

The public didn't pity me. They were absolutely cheering for me. I had controlled the narrative completely.

"You... you published it yourself?" Serena whispered, her hands trembling as she read the thousands of supportive comments pouring in from across the globe.

"When you take away a blackmailer's secret, Serena, you take away their teeth," I said, standing up from my chair. "The police are waiting outside the driveway to escort you back to your arraignment. Keep the file. It’s worthless now. Just like Julian."
