Chapter 2 - The Separation Protocol(Focus: The immediate legal lock-down; Julian discovers his accounts are frozen, his access to the penthouse is revoked, and Amelia has moved to her secret estate.)

By 2:00 AM, the Grant Meridian gala had disintegrated into a chaotic nightmare of high-society gossip. But while Julian was busy trying to bribe reporters to suppress the story of the wine-tossing incident, my legal team was operating with military precision.
Julian arrived at our multi-million-dollar penthouse on the Upper East Side at 3:00 AM, his tie undone, his face red from anger and alcohol. He shoved his biometric keycard into the elevator scanner.
ACCESS DENIED.
He frowned, slamming his thumb against the fingerprint scanner.
ACCESS DENIED. PLEASE CONTACT PROPERTY MANAGEMENT.
"What the hell?" Julian muttered, pulling out his phone to call the building's concierge. Before he could dial, the elevator doors opened, and two burly, armed security guards stepped out, accompanied by the building manager, a man who had previously bowed to Julian for a decade.
"Mr. Grant," the manager said, his voice completely devoid of its usual warmth. "I’m afraid you are no longer permitted on the residential floors of this building."
"Are you losing your mind, Arthur?" Julian roared, stepping forward. "I own the top two floors of this building! My name is on the deed!"
"Actually, Mr. Grant, the deed belongs to the Vance Family Trust, of which Mrs. Amelia Grant is the sole executor," the manager replied, handing him a sleek leather folder. "Your wife filed an emergency ex-parte eviction and a temporary restraining order at midnight, citing financial asset dissipation and domestic harassment. Your personal belongings have already been packed by a bonded moving company and delivered to the security desk downstairs."
Julian stared at the documents, his breath catching in his throat. "This is ridiculous! She can't do this! Where is she?!"
"She is gone, sir. And if you attempt to enter the elevator again, we will have the NYPD arrest you for criminal trespass."
While Julian stood frozen in the lobby, surrounded by his hastily packed designer luggage, his phone began to buzz violently. It was a notification from his private banking app.
[ALERT: YOUR ACCOUNTS WITH VANCE-MANHATTAN BANK HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY FROZEN PENDING FORENSIC AUDIT.]
A second later, his phone rang. It was his corporate CFO, a man who sounded as if he were on the verge of a heart attack.
"Julian! Thank God you picked up," the CFO gasped. "We have a massive problem. The Vance Venture Capital group just pulled their $150 million line of credit from our primary development project. The market opens in five hours, Julian. If we don't restore that liquidity, Grant Enterprises will face a technical default by noon!"
Julian collapsed onto one of his suitcase handles, the reality of his situation hitting him like a physical blow. For twelve years, he had genuinely believed he was the brilliant mastermind of his financial empire. He had forgotten a fundamental truth: before he met me, he was just a mid-level broker with a mountain of debt. My father had built his ladder, and my trust fund had paid for every single rung.
"Call Serena," Julian whispered, his voice shaking. "Tell her we need to access the emergency offshore account."
"I tried, Julian," the CFO stammered. "But Serena’s corporate credit cards were cancelled two hours ago. And Julian... the police are currently at her apartment. Someone reported a stolen multimillion-dollar historical sapphire bracelet registered to the Vance estate."
Thirty miles away, inside a beautifully restored historic estate overlooking the Hudson River—a property Julian didn't even know existed—I sat in front of a roaring fireplace, sipping a hot cup of tea. Daniel, my attorney, sat across from me, his laptop open, lines of financial data illuminating his sharp features.
"He's completely trapped, Amelia," Daniel said, looking up with a grim smile. "He thought you were a decorative wife who didn't understand the business. He never realized that every contract he signed over the last decade had a Vance compliance clause hidden inside it."

I looked down at my bare left hand. The skin felt light, free, and completely unburdened.
"He wanted a public show, Daniel," I said softly, watching the flames lick the logs. "Let's make sure the final curtain is unforgettable."
