Chapter 3 - The Boardroom CoupThe morning sun rose over the glass skyscrapers of the financial district, but inside the executive boardroom of Whitmore Enterprises, the atmosphere was as dark as a storm.

Evelyn Whitmore sat at the head of the mahogany table, clad in a sharp black suit. Around her sat twelve senior board members, investors, and corporate directors. Marcus Sterling sat at her right side, reviewing legal briefs.
“This meeting is called to order,” Evelyn announced, her voice firm, attempting to project her usual absolute authority. “We are here to discuss my son Ryan’s sudden emotional leave of absence and to temporarily reassign his CEO duties back to me.”
The board members murmured among themselves, looking uncomfortable.
“Evelyn,” spoke up Arthur Pendelton, the oldest board member and a long-time partner of Ryan’s late father. “Rumors are circulating across the press this morning. There are reports of a domestic disturbance at your estate last night involving emergency services.”
Evelyn waved her hand dismissively. “Minor family drama, Arthur. Ryan’s wife had an emotional breakdown due to the stress of caring for their sick child. I intervened to protect my grandson, and unfortunately, Ryan reacted rashly. It’s being handled quietly.”
“Is it being handled quietly, Mother?”
The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Ryan walked in. He was no longer wearing his usual polished corporate suit. He wore a simple dark sweater and jeans, his face weary from spending the entire night by Oliver’s hospital bed, but his eyes burned with an icy, unshakable determination.
Beside him walked Julian, carrying a silver briefcase.
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed. “Ryan, you have no authority to crash a private board meeting. Security, escort him out.”
None of the security guards moved. They stood at the doors, keeping their eyes trained on the floor.
“Sit down, Evelyn,” Arthur Pendelton said sternly. “Let the CEO speak.”
Ryan walked straight to the podium at the front of the room. He didn't look at his mother. Instead, he opened Julian’s silver briefcase and pulled out a high-capacity USB drive, plugging it directly into the boardroom projector system.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the board,” Ryan said, his voice echoing clearly across the room. “My mother claims my wife had a mental breakdown last night. She claims she stepped in to save my son. I am here to present the unedited security footage recovered from the nursery by the police department.”
Evelyn jumped out of her chair, her face contorting in panic. “Stop this! Marcus, stop him! This is a violation of corporate privacy!”
“Sit down, Evelyn!” Arthur shouted, slamming his hand onto the table. “Play the video, Ryan.”
Ryan pressed play.
The massive wall screen flickered to life, showing the high-definition footage from the hidden camera.
The room gasped as the video played out in horrifying clarity: Evelyn entering the nursery, snatching Oliver’s emergency inhaler from the changing table, and sliding it into her handbag while the three-year-old boy gasped for air in his crib. It showed Maya rushing into the room, crying, begging for the medication. It showed Evelyn striking Maya across the face, shoving her onto the hard floor, and holding out the custody surrender documents.
The crystal-clear audio filled the boardroom:
“Once Ryan sees you like this, he’ll give me the child himself.”
Silence descended upon the boardroom like a heavy hammer. Several board members turned their heads away in disgust. Arthur Pendelton looked at Evelyn with pure horror, his hands shaking with anger.
“You... you monster,” Arthur whispered, staring at Evelyn. “You let your own grandson suffocate for a corporate leverage ploy?”
Evelyn stood frozen, her lips trembling, unable to form a single sentence. Her carefully constructed mask of perfection was completely shattered.
“Effective immediately,” Ryan announced, leaning over the table toward the board, “I am motioning for a complete vote of no confidence to remove Evelyn Whitmore from the board of directors, revoke her voting rights, and terminate her executive pension.”
“I second the motion!” Arthur called out instantly.
“I third it!” another member shouted.
Within thirty seconds, every single board member raised their hand in unanimous agreement.
Evelyn looked around the room, seeing former allies turning their backs on her, looking at her as if she were a dangerous criminal.
“Ryan... please,” Evelyn choked out, her voice dropping into a desperate, pathetic whimper. “I did it for the family... I did it to keep the company strong!”
Ryan looked at her with pure pitiless detachment. “You didn't do it for the family, Mother. You did it for yourself. And now, you have nothing.”
Two police officers stepped into the boardroom from the side door, holding a fresh warrant.

“Evelyn Whitmore,” Officer Davis announced, pulling out pair of handcuffs. “You are under arrest for felony child endangerment, criminal assault, and destruction of evidence. You have the right to remain silent.”
As the steel cuffs snapped around Evelyn’s wrists in front of the entire corporate board, she screamed Ryan's name, her cries echoing down the hall as she was dragged away to face true justice.
