Chapter 7 - A Legacy Restored

Eight months later.
The gardens of the Vance Estate were ablaze with summer flowers. White tents were set up near the lakefront, where guests—diplomats, business leaders, and close family friends—gathered for the most celebrated event of the year.
Inside the main garden pavilion, Cecile Carter sat comfortably in a customized plush wheelchair, looking healthier and happier than she had in a decade, wearing a beautiful dusty-rose lace dress. Her lap was covered with a soft wool blanket, and her eyes were shining with joyful tears.
Cradled securely in her frail arms was a tiny, sleeping bundle wrapped in a cream cashmere blanket.
A baby boy.
Leo Julian Vance. Born four days ago, healthy, loud, and boasting a head of thick, dark hair and his mother’s bright, intelligent eyes.
"Look at him," Cecile whispered tearfully, her wrinkled fingers gently stroking the baby’s soft cheek. "A Carter... and a Vance. A true king."
Rowena stood beside her grandmother’s chair, wearing a flowing white linen dress, her face glowing with absolute contentment. She leaned down and kissed Cecile’s cheek.
"He’s perfect, Grandma," Rowena whispered. "Just like you wanted."
"No, Rowey," Cecile rasped, looking up at her granddaughter with profound love. "He’s better. Because his mother proved that she would never shrink herself for anyone."
Heavy, familiar footsteps crunched on the gravel path behind them. Julian walked up, looking devastatingly handsome in a light gray linen suit. He knelt beside Cecile’s wheelchair, placing a respectful hand on the older woman’s knee before looking up at his wife.
He reached out, taking Rowena’s hand and lacing his fingers through hers, bringing her knuckles to his lips for a slow, lingering kiss.
"Is my son behaving, Mrs. Carter?" Julian asked smoothly.
"He’s an angel, Julian," Cecile smiled warmly. "Takes after his mother."
Julian laughed softly, his gray eyes shining as he looked up at Rowena. "He has her strength. That is all I could ever ask for."
The summer breeze swept off Lake Michigan, carrying the sweet scent of blooming roses and fresh water. Rowena looked around at her family—her grandmother alive and resting comfortably, her son sleeping peacefully in her arms, and the powerful, devoted man holding her hand as if he would never let go.

She had walked into a hotel room on a dark Friday night expecting a transaction born of grief and desperation. Instead, she had found her destiny, reclaimed her dignity, and built an empire of love that no storm would ever break.
Rowena leaned down, pressing her lips against Julian’s, sealing their quiet, perfect forever beneath the warm sun.
