Chapter 7 - The Crown We BuiltSix months later, the lakeside mansion looked entirely different.

The dark, oppressive shadows of intimidation and quiet fear had been replaced by light, life, and the undeniable hum of absolute control. The Romano syndicate was no longer a feared shadow organization operating on the fringes of the city; it had evolved into a legitimate, untouchable conglomerate holding stakes in real estate, global shipping, and urban renewal projects across Illinois.
And at the center of it all sat the council table, where I held the deciding vote on every major policy, financial venture, and security detail.

The grand ballroom was filled with the city's elite: politicians, foreign diplomats, business magnates, and the highest-ranking capos of the underworld. But this time, no one whispered behind my back with pity or condescension. When I walked down the marble staircase in a custom gown of midnight silk and platinum embroidery, every person in the room rose in respectful silence.
Alessandro waited for me at the foot of the stairs, dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, looking every bit the sovereign king of Chicago. But as he took my hand, his grip was tender, steady, and entirely devoted.
"Happy anniversary, my queen," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to the back of my hand, right over the blood-cleansed ring that had started our war.

"Happy anniversary, husband," I smiled, looking out over the glittering sea of powerful men and women who now respected our name not out of terror, but out of absolute awe.
We had survived the betrayal. We had burned away the rot from within. And from the ashes of a broken marriage, we had built an empire that no enemy could ever tear down again.
