Chapter 5 - The Siege at the EstateForty-eight hours later, federal marshals and Maya’s private forensic accountants descended upon the family estate with search warrants in hand.

I wasn't there to watch them turn my childhood home inside out. I remained stationed outside Grace’s intensive care room in Manhattan, refusing to leave her side even for a moment. But my phone fed me a live, encrypted stream of the raid via body-cam feeds from our security consultants.
The footage showed federal agents breaching the grand oak front doors, sweeping through the opulent dining rooms, and descending into the west wing basement. They bypassed the decoy wine cellars, bypassed the servant quarters, and finally converged on the heavy steel door I had broken open two nights prior.
Inside the hidden room, forensic investigators uncovered a treasure trove of bureaucratic nightmares: medical records falsified by a corrupt family doctor, handwritten logs detailing Grace’s caloric intake and psychological deterioration, and the forged adoption paperwork bearing my mother’s signature alongside a blank relinquishment form awaiting Grace’s coerced thumbprint.
As the search warrant was executed downstairs in the main parlor, my mother sat regally in her wingback velvet chair, sipping black tea while federal agents boxed up her personal ledgers.
According to the audio feed from the lead investigator’s jacket mic, Isabella didn't even flinch when the handcuffs were brought out.
“You’re making a monumental mistake, officers,” my mother’s voice echoed crisply through my phone’s speaker. “My son is emotionally compromised by a manipulative outsider. When he comes to his senses, he will realize I was simply protecting the legacy of the Morgan name.”
“With all due respect, Mrs. Morgan,” the federal marshal replied flatly, “you’re being placed under arrest for kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, extortion, and conspiracy to traffic a minor. You have the right to remain silent.”
The click of the steel cuffs sounded through the speaker like a gavel coming down on an empire.
Just as the feed cut out, my phone buzzed with an incoming text message from Thomas, our longtime butler.
May you like
Mr. Julian. I left a locked leather briefcase inside your old study on the mahogany desk. It belonged to your late father. Inside, you will find the truth about why your mother is so desperate to control the estate's bloodline. Please come home when you can.
I stared at the screen, a cold shiver running down my spine. The plot thickened, reaching back into the dark history of the family I thought I knew.
