Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Emerald ShieldIn late September 2026, ten months after that terrifying night in the ICU, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Clara Vance Heritage & Maternal Protection Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her tall, radiant figure, was Donna Clara Sterling-Vance.
Around her neck hung her late mother’s restored silver signet pendant, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.
Beside the stage stood Bridget Colton and Marcus Vance.
And standing on her right, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-four frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding baby Alexander and Leo in a dual stroller, was Adrian Vance.
Adrian stepped up to the microphone beside Clara, wrapping his broad, warm arm securely around her waist, his deep baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten months ago, dark cowards tried to destroy the bravest woman in New York, thinking wealth had no teeth," Adrian announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable devotion as he looked down at Clara. "And on that night, she survived their fire, claimed her sovereign power, and brought my entire world back to the light."
Adrian held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
