Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Lost DynastyBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor executive command suite at The Vance Tower in Manhattan was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operators guarded every corridor. Inside, Clara lay resting in a state-of-the-art portable ICU bed, monitored by an elite private surgical team I had flown in from Johns Hopkins, overseen directly by Chief Prosecutor Bridget Colton.
Across the broad black granite table sat me, alongside Marcus Vance and forensic accounting experts.
Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers and wiretap transcripts flat onto the table toward me:
"Adrian, Clara," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Arthur Sterling, his eight sons, and Dr. Vance-Smith is complete."
I leaned over the granite table, my hands planted flat against the polished surface, my storm-gray eyes burning with an apocalyptic, predatory fire. "Explain it."
Bridget tapped the digital displays:
THE MEDICAL POISONING CONSPIRACY: High-definition video and chemical reports proving Dr. Vance-Smith accepted a $2 million bribe from Julian Sterling to inject a lethal potassium compound into Clara's IV line, ensuring she could never testify about the assault.
THE EMBEZZLED HERITAGE TRUST: Proof that Arthur Sterling systematically diverted $180 million from Clara’s late mother’s real estate trust (The Bennett-Sterling Fund) to cover his sons' illegal gambling debts in Macao.
THE SOVEREIGN PROXY: Original probate deeds proving thirty-two-year-old Clara Sterling-Vance as sole fifty-one percent controlling equity holder over the entire Sterling Maritime Logistics Network.
Clara, propped up against her pillows, tears streaming down her pale cheeks despite her injuries, looked at the documents with unshakeable resolve.
"They murdered my baby, Adrian," Clara whispered, her silver voice trembling with a profound, diamond-hard rage. "They thought because I was their daughter, I would suffer in silence forever."

I walked across the room, dropping flat onto one knee beside her bed. I reached out, my broad, calloused hands taking her small, bruised fingers into my own, pressing my lips gently against her knuckles.
"They don't know who you married, Clara," I promised, my deep baritone an iron oath that shook the room. "Tomorrow morning at the Manhattan Financial Assembly... we wipe the Sterling name off the face of the Earth."
