Chapter 4 - The Tides of ReversalBy 8:00 AM the following morning, the street outside the New York State Capitol building in Albany was choked with over forty media vans, hundreds of reporters, and a growing crowd of citizens holding signs that read JUSTICE FOR CLAIRE and WHITMORE MUST RESIGN.

Inside his private legislative office on the third floor, Alexander Whitmore was living through a localized apocalypse.
Through the live security cameras feed monitored by our legal team from a private suite down the hall, we watched Alexander pacing frantically across his Persian rug. His tie was loose, his jacket was thrown over a chair, and his phone was ringing continuously.
Beside his desk stood Victoria Ashford, looking thoroughly miserable in a black designer dress, her phone pressed to her ear as she argued fiercely with her father’s corporate PR team.
"What do you mean the board is suspending the Hudson Valley contract?!" Victoria screamed into the receiver. "My father personally approved that transaction!"
She slammed the phone down, turning on Alexander with a look of pure rage. "My father's CFO just pulled our equity firm's backing from your campaign, Alexander! They said your name is toxic!"
"Just calm down, Victoria!" Alexander yelled back, his voice strained and desperate. "Once I talk to Claire in private, I can fix this! She loves me! She’s been loyal to me for five years! She was just hurt because of how I announced the separation—"
"Are you insane?!" Victoria spat, taking her purse from the desk. "She isn't Claire the church orphan anymore! She's Julianna Kingston! Her father controls the State Ethics Committee, the Banking Commission, and half the judiciary in this district! She doesn't love you, Alexander—she’s going to erase you!"
Before Alexander could respond, his office door was pushed open without a knock.
Two senior investigators from the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics stepped into the room, accompanied by two uniformed state troopers.
"Alexander Whitmore?" the lead investigator asked, pulling a red folder from his coat.
Alexander froze, his chest heaving. "What is the meaning of this? I am a sitting State Senator!"
"Not for long, Senator," the investigator replied coldly. "We are serving you with an immediate freeze order issued by the State Supreme Court regarding all campaign accounts, personal lines of credit, and real estate holdings associated with your office. Furthermore, you are formally subpoenaed to appear before the Grand Jury on Monday morning regarding allegations of intellectual property theft, campaign finance fraud, and public corruption."
"On whose authority?!" Alexander demanded, his voice cracking with pure terror.
The investigator stepped aside, allowing Eleanor Vance to walk into the room. She wore a sharp charcoal suit, holding a silver tablet displaying a signed court order.
"On the authority of the primary guarantor of your estate, Senator," Eleanor said smoothly. "Mrs. Julianna Kingston-Whitmore has formally revoked her financial guarantee of your debts. First National Bank has called your six-million-dollar campaign line of credit due immediately. Since your accounts are frozen, the bank has initiated foreclosure proceedings on your Manhattan apartment and your campaign headquarters."
Alexander stumbled back, sinking heavily into his office chair as if his legs could no longer support his weight.

"Where is she?" he whispered, looking up at Eleanor with hollow, terrified eyes. "Where is Claire?"
Eleanor offered a cold, professional smile. "She is in the main briefing room, Senator. She’s about to address the nation."
