Chapter 7 - Dawn Over the HorizonThree months later, the Pacific coastline stretched out before us in a breathtaking panorama of turquoise water, white sand, and golden morning sunlight.

The sprawling, modern glass-and-stone villa we now called home stood perched safely on a private cliff overlooking the ocean, far away from the dark stone corridors and bloody history of the Chicago estate. There were no hidden rooms beneath our floors, no iron bars on our windows, and no shadows lurking in the hallways.

Inside the nursery, the air smelled of fresh lavender, sea salt, and baby powder.

Leo was three months old now, growing stronger and louder every single day, with my dark hair and Grace’s luminous, expressive eyes.

I stood on the expansive wooden deck wrapping around the back of the house, holding a steaming mug of coffee in one hand as the cool morning breeze ruffled my shirt. Behind me, the sliding glass door opened softly, and footsteps crossed the hardwood floor.

Grace stepped out onto the deck, wearing a light summer dress, looking vibrant, healthy, and more beautiful than the day I first met her. She walked up behind me, wrapping her slender arms around my waist and resting her cheek against my back.

"He's finally asleep," she whispered happily, closing her eyes as she absorbed the warmth of the morning sun.

I turned around in her embrace, setting my coffee mug down on the railing, and wrapped my arms securely around her, pulling her flush against my chest.

"Good," I smiled, leaning down to press a long, tender kiss to her lips. "Because that means I finally have my wife all to myself."

Grace laughed, a bright, musical sound that chased away the last lingering ghosts of our past. She rested her hands against my chest, looking out across the endless, sparkling expanse of the ocean where the horizon melted seamlessly into the sky.

We had walked through fire, betrayal, and a literal hell engineered by my own flesh and blood. We had lost months of our lives to a cage of darkness and lies. But looking down at the woman in my arms and knowing our son was sleeping safely just inside, I knew one absolute truth.

No matter how deep the darkness, love like ours could always carve its way back to the light. And this time, nothing in this world could ever tear us apart again.
