Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary at Lake ForestIn late May 2026, on a clear, warm Saturday afternoon, the sweeping oceanfront gardens of the Voss Estate in Lake Forest were bathed in the brilliant golden glow of late spring.

The dark, predatory shadow of unpaid bills, failing car brakes, and cruel managers was permanently, historically erased from my life.

Over three hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, Eleanor Voss, Marcus Vance, my mother, and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the stone patio, enjoying fine food, vintage wine, and live acoustic music.

I stood near the grand marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking floor-length ivory silk dress that caught the soft breeze coming off Lake Michigan. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my face glowing with absolute victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.

Adrian Voss walked out onto the stone terrace wearing an immaculate dark tuxedo, holding two glasses of sunlit champagne, stepping up beside me near the balustrade.

He wrapped his broad, warm arm around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid, six-foot-two frame, leaning down to press a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Adrian whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, leaning my head comfortably back against his broad chest.

"I was thinking about twelve dollars and forty cents, Adrian," I answered softly, a radiant, beautiful smile lighting up my face. "And how buying a lunch for an old woman brought us straight to our true home."

Adrian offered a soft, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his severe, handsome features.

"You saved my soul, Sophie," Adrian promised, his deep baritone thick with emotion, pulling me closer under the spring sun. "And I will spend the rest of my life protecting yours."
