Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary at Lake ForestAt 11:30 PM, six black armored Maybachs glided through the iron security gates of the Cross Estate in Lake Forest, thirty miles north of Chicago.

The two hundred billionaires locked inside the ballroom were released forty minutes earlier after signing strict non-disclosure agreements enforced by Gabriel’s legal team, while the media blackout across New York was absolute.
The Lake Forest estate was a grand, historic stone fortress surrounded by high walls, infrared security cameras, and forty armed guards patrolling the sunlit courtyard.
When the vehicle stopped outside the grand front doors, Gabriel stepped out first, opening the rear door himself, gently lifting five-year-old Leo, Julian, and Mateo in his broad arms, carrying all three boys into the grand marble foyer while I walked beside him.
My three sons weren't frightened. They looked around the soaring oak ceilings, the marble fireplaces, and the velvet furniture with wide, curious gray-green eyes.
"Is this your house, Daddy?" Julian asked softly, touching the lapel of Gabriel's dark wool coat.
Gabriel stopped dead in his tracks on the marble floorboards. He lowered his face against the five-year-old boy's shoulder, his broad chest shuddering with a quiet, weightless sob before he looked up at his son.
"It's your house, my son," Gabriel promised, his voice thick with a deep, reverent warmth. "Everything I own... every stone, every room, every acre... belongs to you, your brothers, and your mother."
Dr. Aris Vance—the Chief Medical Director of Mount Sinai—sat waiting inside the executive library, accompanied by Gabriel’s chief forensic investigator, Marco.
Marco set an open laptop flat onto the mahogany desk.
"Boss," Marco reported cleanly, his voice devoid of any hesitation. "We cracked Serena Vale's encrypted cloud server twenty minutes ago. We recovered six hundred emails between Serena and Marcus Moretti—your primary syndicate rival in Brooklyn."
Gabriel set the three boys down on a plush velvet sofa near the fireplace, where two gentle housekeepers offered them warm cocoa and cookies, before stepping up to the mahogany desk beside me.
"Read the report, Marco," Gabriel commanded flatly.
"Five years ago," Marco revealed, displaying the certified digital transcripts, "Serena Vale was paid two million dollars by Marcus Moretti to forge Mrs. Claire Cross's medical records. They knew that if you had an heir with Claire, the Moretti family could never challenge your corporate trust. Serena systematically poisoned your trust in Claire... forcing the divorce so she could move into your estate as an informant."
My heart hammered against my ribs as I looked at the dark truth illuminated on the screen.
Five years of separation, five years of raising my boys in secret, five years of swallowed tears... all engineered by a rival crime boss and a greedy mistress.
Gabriel didn't shout. He didn't smash the desk.
His face transformed into a mask of pure, apocalyptic stillness—a look so cold, so absolute, that the air in the library seemed to freeze solid.
"Where is Marcus Moretti right now, Marco?" Gabriel asked deadpan.
"He's at his private estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, Boss," Marco answered. "He thinks Serena is still managing the gala."

Gabriel turned his head slowly, looking at me, his storm-dark eyes holding an unshakeable, terrifying authority.
"Stay here with our sons, Claire," Gabriel whispered, his fingers gently touching my cheekbone. "I have a five-year-old debt to settle."
