Chapter 5 - The Collapse at the Syndicate CouncilBy 7:00 PM that evening, the grand private dining room at The Capital Grille in downtown Providence was packed with the twelve senior syndicate captains and business partners who formed the Kincaid Regional Council.

Dorian Kincaid sat at the head of the long mahogany table, wearing a dark three-piece suit. His face was pale, his storm-gray eyes bloodshot, his hands trembling slightly as he tried to maintain his usual terrifying, sovereign posture.

Beside him sat his lead attorney, Marcus Vance, who was sweating profusely while staring at his tablet.

"Dorian," Captain Victor Moretti spoke sharply from the foot of the table, slamming his signet ring against the wood. "Our primary shipping lines through the Providence harbor were halted four hours ago! The harbor master says the operating permits were revoked because your wife—Audra Vance Kincaid—filed a primary injunction claiming sole corporate ownership!"

"It’s a temporary marital dispute, Victor!" Dorian barked, his thunderous baritone rising in dark, desperate anger. "Audra will withdraw the injunction before midnight! She’s emotional!"

BOOM!

The heavy carved oak double doors of the dining room were thrown open with a sudden, deliberate force that made the brass handles crack against the walls.

The room fell into a sudden, spellbound silence.

Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Rebecca Hayes and four uniformed state marshals, was me.

I wore a breathtaking, floor-length midnight-blue silk gown that draped gracefully over my figure. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory.

And hanging around my neck, catching the warm crystal chandeliers in brilliant, sparkling waves, was my mother's sapphire necklace.

Dorian dropped his wine glass. The crystal shattered against the table.

"Audra...?" Dorian rasped out, his voice cracking into raw, disbelieving fragments as he stood up slowly from his seat.
