Chapter 6 - The Fall of Dante MorettiDante Moretti let out a guttural, frantic shriek, reaching for his sidearm with a suicidal, desperate rage.

THWIP! THWIP!

Before Dante’s finger could touch the trigger, two suppressed rounds fired by Marcus from the secondary crane framework punched cleanly through Dante’s knees, knocking him flat onto the wet asphalt.

"ARGH!" Dante groached in agony, clutching his bloody legs.

BOOM!

The heavy side entrance gates were thrown wide as forty fully armed Federal Marshals and NYPD tactical officers swept onto the pier, their weapons trained directly on Dante’s mercenaries.

"DROP YOUR WEAPONS! FEDERAL AGENTS!" the lead marshal bellowed.

CLICK. CLICK.

Heavy steel handcuffs locked around Dante Moretti’s wrists behind his back as he thrashed frantically, weeping in total, groveling defeat, dragged away through the high brass gates in chains to face lifetime federal imprisonment without parole.

Kieran pulled me into his broad arms right on the rain-soaked asphalt, holding my body close against his chest, pressing a deep, passionate kiss against my lips as the entire federal team secured the pier.

"You were brilliant, my queen," Kieran whispered softly against my lips.

I smiled up into his storm-gray eyes, feeling the cold rain turn into a warm, victorious light that washed away every lingering trace of terror from my soul.
