Chapter 7 - A New DynastyThe boardroom on the forty-fifth floor was packed to maximum capacity.

Every senior partner, regional director, and legal counsel sat around the massive mahogany table. At the head sat Arthur Sterling, looking smug and triumphant, leaning back in his leather chair as if he had already won the war.

When the double doors swung open and Cameron walked in, the room instantly fell dead silent.

And then they saw who was walking beside him.

Me.

Not standing behind him with a notepad, not waiting by the door to fetch coffee, but walking step-for-step beside him, wearing a sharp navy power suit, my head held high, carrying the leather-bound forensic audit folder like a shield and a sword.

Sterling’s smug expression faltered. He sat up straight, his face twisting with disgust. "What is she doing in here? This is a closed-door executive tribunal. Assistants are not permitted."

"She isn't an assistant, Arthur," Cameron said smoothly as he pulled out the chair at the head of the table—the absolute center of power—and gestured for me to sit right beside him. "Emma Carter is my Chief Strategy Officer, co-architect of our upcoming tech logistics pivot, and my future wife."

An audible gasp echoed around the room. Several board members dropped their pens. Sterling slammed his hands onto the table, half-rising from his chair.

"Have you lost your absolute mind?!" Sterling roared, his face turning purple. "You're bringing your girlfriend into an executive disciplinary hearing? We are here to vote on invoking the morality clause to strip you of your CEO status due to gross misconduct and reputational sabotage!"

Cameron didn't raise his voice. He didn't even blink. He simply leaned back, crossing one leg over the other, looking at Sterling the way a cat watches a cornered rat.

"Go ahead, Arthur," Cameron invited softly. "Call the vote."

Sterling sneered, looking around the table at the terrified board members. "All in favor of stripping Cameron Reed of his executive powers under the morality clause, raise your hands."

Three hands went up. Sterling’s, and two of his cronies.

Silence stretched across the room. The rest of the board members sat frozen, looking nervously at the thick leather folder sitting squarely in front of me.

Sterling’s triumphant smile vanished, replaced by a sudden flicker of panic. He looked around the table. "What are you idiots waiting for? Vote!"

"They're waiting for page four of the dossier," I said, my voice cutting through the heavy tension of the room like a silver blade.

I opened the leather folder, slid copies across the mahogany table toward the remaining board members, and leaned forward, locking my eyes directly onto Arthur Sterling.

"What you're looking at," I continued calmly, "is a complete trail of wire transfers routing forty-two million dollars of Reed Global infrastructure funds into private offshore accounts controlled by Sterling Capital and the Vance Group, dated between 2023 and 2025. Federal investigators at the SDNY received copies of these documents thirty minutes ago."

The color drained entirely from Arthur Sterling’s face. He staggered backward, his hands gripping the edge of the table to keep from collapsing as his breath hitched in his throat.

"That's... that's a lie! Forgeries!" Sterling stammered, his voice cracking with sheer terror.

"Federal marshals are currently waiting in the lobby to discuss the difference between forgeries and federal wire fraud," Cameron added quietly, his gray eyes flashing like a winter storm. "You tried to use a morality clause to oust me, Arthur. But it turns out you were the one standing on rotten wood."

The meeting didn't end with a vote; it ended with Sterling’s frantic, stumbling retreat out of the boardroom, flanked by his own lawyers as they realized they had walked straight into a trap.

Ten minutes later, the boardroom was empty except for Cameron and me.

The heavy oak doors clicked shut, locking out the noise of the city, the media storm, and the corporate vultures.

Cameron let out a long, slow breath, leaning back in his chair and rubbing the bridge of his nose. For a second, the weight of the entire empire seemed to lift off his shoulders. Then he looked up at me, a slow, breathtaking smile spreading across his face.

"Well," he murmured, standing up and walking around the table to pull me out of my chair and into his arms. "That went reasonably well."

I laughed, wrapping my arms around his neck as he pulled me flush against his chest. "You are an absolute monster, Cameron Reed."

"Only for you," he whispered, his eyes dark with an intensity that made my heart race.

He leaned down, capturing my lips in a deep, fierce, triumphant kiss that tasted like victory, freedom, and a future neither of us ever expected to find.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the sun finally broke through the Manhattan clouds, casting a golden light across the glittering skyline. The billionaire boss who had arrived at my apartment in a drunken haze had lost his fiancée, his old life, and his corporate shackles. But in return, he had found something infinitely more real.

And as I looked up into his eyes, I knew the storm was finally over. We were home.
