Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeOne year after the night under the Hudson overpass, the winter sky over Manhattan was clear, dark, and filled with a million twinkling stars.

Inside the penthouse at Vance Tower, the floor-to-ceiling windows looked out over the glowing grid of the city below.
A twelve-foot Christmas tree stood in the living room, decorated with silver ribbon, twinkling white lights, and hundreds of glass ornaments.
Sitting on a soft cashmere rug near the fireplace were fourteen-month-old Lily and Mia, giggling happily as they played with wooden toy blocks, while their golden retriever napped beside them.
I stood near the window wearing a comfortable cream cashmere sweater, holding a warm cup of cocoa, looking out at the city I had once feared.
Footsteps sounded softly on the wooden floorboards behind me. Elias walked over, wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his chest, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" he whispered softly, his breath warm against my neck.
I looked down at our two daughters playing near the fireplace, then turned my head to press a sweet kiss to his cheek, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into my soul.
"I was thinking about that freezing night under the bridge, Elias," I answered softly, a radiant smile lighting up my face. "And how the man who was supposed to be terrifying... gave me my entire world."
Elias tightened his grip around my waist, his gray eyes shining with quiet joy as he looked out over the city with me.

"The cold is gone forever, Ava," Elias promised, his voice smooth, calm, and echoing warmly through our home. "You are home."
Outside the glass tower, the winter wind blew over the Hudson River, but sitting inside the warm, unbroken sanctuary of our love, wrapped in the arms of the man who had saved us, I knew that my life, my daughters, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
