Chapter 4 - The Boardroom ExecutionThree weeks passed like a quiet, miraculous dream.

My physical recovery was complete. With proper care, good food, and rest, my strength returned fully. My skin regained its color, and my daughters, Lily and Mia, thrived under the constant care of our estate team, growing bigger and healthier every day.
However, the final legal battle for Arthur Sterling's complete financial collapse reached its climax inside the grand boardroom of the New York Financial Clearinghouse.
Sitting around a long mahogany conference table were twelve senior banking directors, three federal prosecutors, and Elias Vance.
At the far end sat Arthur Sterling, wearing a rumpled suit, his face pale, covered in dark stubble, his bloodshot eyes full of panic.
Sitting beside Elias, wearing a tailored ivory suit with her dark hair styled in soft waves, was me.
Arthur’s jaw dropped as he looked across the table. He could barely recognize the confident woman sitting beside Elias Vance as the frail girl he had dragged into the freezing cold three weeks ago.
"Ava...?" Arthur stammered, his voice cracking. "Ava... please... tell him to stop! He's foreclosing on everything I own! My company! My apartment! I have nowhere to go!"
I looked across the table at my ex-husband—feeling zero fear, zero pain, and zero regret.
"You told me my daughters weren't worth feeding, Arthur," I said, my voice calm, clear, and cold. "You told me I was nothing. Now you get to see how it feels to have nothing."
Sarah Sterling stepped forward, dropping certified federal liquidation decrees onto the mahogany table.
"Gentlemen of the board," Sarah announced cleanly, "all commercial assets formerly held under Arthur Sterling’s name have been officially acquired by the Ava Miller Trust—an independent entity established for the lifelong care and education of Lily and Mia Miller."

Arthur collapsed back into his chair, letting out a pathetic sob as the banking directors signed the transfer decrees. He was bankrupt, evicted, and facing criminal indictments for felony spousal abuse and child endangerment.
Elias stood up smoothly from the table, taking my hand in his broad, warm palm, kissing my knuckles under the bright lights, his gray eyes shining with pride.
