Chapter 3 - The Unmasking of the MonsterThomas’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. A sudden, microscopic twitch passed through his jaw, and his gray eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits of cold, calculated malice.

"Sweetheart," Thomas chuckled softly, turning to Detective Vance with an easy, mocking wave of his hand. "She's out of her mind on morphine, Officer. She suffers from severe anxiety and paranoia. She's been making up these wild stories for months."
"Is that so, Mr. Vance?" Detective Vance replied deadpan.
The detective pulled out an encrypted tablet provided by the department's digital forensics unit. Five minutes earlier, acting on the secure cloud credentials I had provided to Dr. Reed, federal cyber agents had accessed my remote server.
Detective Vance tapped the screen.
High-definition audio and video roared through the hallway speakers:
Thomas’s voice: "You're MY wife! Try leaving me. Go ahead! Who do you think they'll believe?!"
The sickening sound of a heavy blow, followed by my muffled sob.
Eleanor’s voice: "Stop provoking him! Do you want the whole town laughing at our family?!"
Thomas’s voice (from two hours ago): "Maybe now you'll learn to keep your mouth shut!"
The loud, horrifying CRACK of my bone snapping, followed by my blood-curdling scream of agony.
The entire emergency wing dropped into a suffocating, speech-bound silence.
Nurses stopped in their tracks. Patients stared. The two uniformed officers moved instantly, stepping behind Thomas and Eleanor.
Thomas’s face drained of every drop of color, turning an ugly, paper-white shade of green. The bouquet of white roses slipped from his hand, crashing flat onto the linoleum floorboards, petals scattering across the wet floor.
"That... that's a deepfake!" Thomas stammered, his polished facade collapsing into a frantic, sweating panic. "She tampered with the audio! Eleanor, tell them!"
"Yes! It's fake!" Eleanor shrieked, her voice cracking into a high, hysterical squeak. "My son-in-law is innocent! You have no right—"
"Thomas Vance," Detective Vance announced, his voice booming through the hallway like thunder. "You are under arrest for Aggravated Domestic Battery, Felony Assault Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, and Systemic Extortion."
CLICK. CLICK.
The heavy steel handcuffs locked tightly around Thomas’s wrists behind his back.
"And Eleanor Bennett," Detective Vance added, nodding to the second officer. "You are under arrest for Accessory to Felony Assault, Filing a False Police Report, and Obstruction of Justice."
CLICK. CLICK.
My mother thrashed wildly, screaming my name, weeping hysterical, pathetic tears as she and Thomas were dragged down the long hospital corridor in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news cameras that had begun gathering in the lobby below.
I lay in the hospital bed, watching them go, a single tear of profound, weightless relief tracking down my cheek.

Dr. Alexander Reed stepped back into the room, gently pulling the blanket over my shoulders.
"It's over, Clara," Dr. Reed whispered softly, his hazel eyes shining with absolute, protective warmth. "You brought them down."
