Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the Chicago Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over three hundred high-society investors, corporate logistics magnates, syndicate capos, and federal prosecutors sat around a thirty-foot carved walnut table beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Sitting at the head of the table, wearing an elegant red designer suit, holding a silver pen, was sixty-two-year-old Margaret Moretti. Beside her sat Vanessa Blake, wearing a white silk dress, smirking as they prepared to sign the corporate merger papers that would absorb the South Chicago berths into Blake Global.
"Gentlemen!" Margaret announced smoothly into the central microphone, her voice dripping with aristocratic deceit, "today we finalize the administrative transfer of the Vance-Moretti shipping berths, permanently retiring the spousal claims of Claire, who has unfortunately departed our family—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive boardroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of three hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red carpet, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Alexander Moretti.
He wore a dark bespoke charcoal suit, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside him, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful, radiant figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was Donna Claire Moretti.
She held a sleek leather folder in her hand, her posture regal, her presence radiating an unshakeable, diamond-hard power that dominated the entire room.
Vanessa Blake dropped her silver pen.
CRASH!
The heavy pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Margaret Moretti stood up so fast she knocked her leather chair over backward.
"C-CLAIRE...?! ALEXANDER?!" Vanessa stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE DIVORCED YOU LAST NIGHT!"
"She didn't divorce me, Vanessa," Alexander announced flatly, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "She reclaimed her empire."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Margaret Moretti’s trembling hands:
TOTAL ASSET RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Vance-Moretti Trust Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling equity directly to Chairwoman Claire Moretti.
ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Margaret Moretti and Vanessa Blake for $85 Million Wire Fraud, Forgery, and Attempted Domestic Extortion.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under the Blake and Moretti secondary shells.
"WHAT IS THIS?!" Vanessa shrieked, thrashing as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "YOU CAN'T SEIZE MY FAMILY'S COMPANY FOR A SPITEFUL WIFE!"
"She isn't a spiteful wife, Vanessa," Alexander corrected deadpan, stepping beside Claire’s chair, wrapping his broad, warm arm securely around her waist, pulling her flush against his side. "She is the Matriarch of the Moretti Dynasty. And she owns your entire life."
