Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 8:00 PM the following evening, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity for the annual Founders' Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, media magnates, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers. Flashbulbs exploded continuously as photographers documented the elite crowd.
Standing near the main champagne fountain, wearing an expensive black tuxedo, was thirty-six-year-old Preston Vance. Beside him stood his pregnant mistress, Cassidy Vaughn, who wore a plunging backless crimson gown, her diamond necklace glittering under the spotlights as she smirked arrogance toward the entrance.
"Is your hideous wife coming, Preston?" Cassidy giggled softly into her glass, rubbing her slight baby bump. "Or did she finally realize that a disfigured maid has no place at the Plaza?"
Preston laughed, adjusting his gold cufflinks. "She won't show her face, sweetheart. I left the backless invitation on her desk myself. By tomorrow morning, my lawyers will file for divorce on grounds of desertion, and your baby gets the Vance name."
BOOM!
The heavy double mahogany entrance doors of the grand ballroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of five hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Gideon Ashford.
He wore a magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside him, holding his arm with breathtaking, regal grace, was me.
I wore a floor-length dark emerald silk gown custom-designed by Paris's most elite couture house. The dress was cut into an exquisite, sweeping backless V-shape that exposed my entire back to the room.
My skin-graft scars—the thick, raised landscape earned while dragging my husband out of a burning building—were not covered with makeup or shawls. They glistened softly under the chandelier lights, framed by delicate gold-and-emerald chains that transformed every mark of sacrifice into a breathtaking work of art.
My dark hair fell in glossy waves over one shoulder, my hazel eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.
Cassidy Vaughn dropped her champagne glass.
CRASH!
The crystal glass shattered flat against the parquet floorboards, sparkling wine splashing over her designer heels. Her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Preston Vance stood paralyzed, his jaw sagging open in utter, catatonic horror.
"V-VIVIAN...?! GIDEON?!" Preston stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the table. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE HIDING HER DISFIGUREMENT!"
"Her scars aren't a disfigurement, Preston," Gideon announced flatly, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the vast room, dropping the temperature to zero. "They are the mark of the woman who saved a coward's life... and tonight, she takes back her company."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Preston’s trembling hands:
TOTAL ASSET RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Bennett Trust Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling equity directly to Chairwoman Vivian Bennett-Ashford.
ARREST WARRANTS: Federal arrest warrants served on Preston Vance and Cassidy Vaughn for $150 Million Wire Fraud, Forgery, Arson Conspiracy, and Premeditated Corporate Extortion.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total revocation of all board titles and operational credentials held by Preston Vance across North America.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Cassidy shrieked, thrashing as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "I'M PREGNANT WITH HIS HEIR!"
"Your baby is inheriting a convict's record, Cassidy," I spoke out flatly, my clear, silver voice echoing cleanly across the quiet ballroom, dropping the temperature to zero. "Because Vance Logistics belongs to my father... and to me."
