Chapter 4 - The Fall of the ConspiratorsDaniel thrashed his hands frantically, backing toward the rear glass windows as he realized his entire life was crumbling into dust.
"THIS IS A SET-UP!" Daniel screamed, his voice rising into a high, pathetic shriek. "ARTHUR! LISTEN TO ME! CLAIRE IS DOING THIS TO GET REVENGE BECAUSE OF AN AFFAIR! THE COMPANY IS FINE!"
"The company's offshore accounts are empty, Daniel," I corrected deadpan, leaning over the table. "Because at eight-thirty this morning, the Federal District Court issued an emergency seizure order freezing every asset associated with Vance Logistics and your personal accounts."
Two Federal Marshals stepped through the doorway, holding heavy steel handcuffs.
"Daniel Vance," the lead marshal declared. "You are under arrest for Corporate Embezzlement, Wire Fraud, and Secondary Conspiracy to Aggravated Assault."
CLICK. CLICK.
The steel cuffs locked tightly around Daniel’s wrists behind his back.
"CLAIRE! PLEASE!" Daniel wept hysterically, tears and sweat streaming down his pale face as he was forced toward the door. "WE CAN WORK THIS OUT! I'LL GIVE YOU THE MANSION! I'LL GO TO COUNSELING!"
"Our counseling was completed the moment that powder hit my glass, Daniel," I said softly, turning my back on him.
He was dragged out through the central glass corridor in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news crews that had gathered in the lobby downstairs.
Meanwhile, at the Cook County Women's Correctional Facility, Vanessa Carter was officially arraigned on charges of Felony Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Substance, Extortion, and Accessory to Grand Larceny.
