Chapter 6 - The New DynastySix months later.

The grand reopening gala of the newly rebranded Vale Grand Hotel in downtown Manhattan was the social event of the season—not because of scandalous headlines or tabloid gossip, but because it represented the triumphant resurgence of New York’s most prestigious hospitality brand under entirely new leadership.

The ballroom was bathed in warm amber light, filled with international investors, cultural philanthropists, and leaders of industry who had once snubbed me when I was merely Sebastian’s shadowed wife.

Tonight, I stood at the center of the room, wearing a stunning midnight-blue velvet gown of my own design, with my mother’s Kashmir blue sapphire necklace resting proudly and securely against my throat.

“You look extraordinary, Vivienne,” a warm, familiar voice murmured beside me.

I turned to see Julian Thorne—the reclusive, formidable billionaire and shipping magnate who had quietly assisted Alexander Knox in tracking Sebastian’s offshore shell companies through European maritime accounts.

“Thank you, Julian,” I smiled, clinking my champagne glass against his. “Though I suspect you’re only here to ensure my security detail doesn't accidentally toss another rogue banker into the fountain.”

Julian laughed, his dark eyes crinkling at the corners. “My security team is merely ensuring that New York’s corporate vultures understand the new rules of engagement. Speaking of which, your ex-husband’s sentencing hearing concluded in federal court this morning.”

I stopped smiling, turning my gaze toward the glittering floor-to-ceiling windows. “And?”

“Twenty-two years,” Julian said quietly. “Without the possibility of parole for at least fourteen. The judge made a very pointed speech about corporate greed, fraudulent asset concealment, and the absolute destruction of trust.”

A profound, weightless sense of peace washed over me. The ghost of Sebastian Vale—the man who had tried to humiliate me with red ink and a stolen necklace in this very hotel district—was finally gone, locked away behind gray concrete walls where he could no longer harm anyone.

“He thought he was writing my ending,” I murmured, looking down at the blue sapphire resting against my chest. “He didn't realize he was just giving me a blank page.”

Julian reached out, gently placing his hand over mine. “Some women are rescued by princes, Vivienne. Others build their own kingdoms.”

I looked up into his eyes, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across my face.

“And some of us,” I replied softly, “do both.”
