Chapter 3 - The Boardroom ConfrontationAt 2:00 PM, the quarterly board meeting of Moretti Enterprise was called to order.

Vincent sat at the center of the executive table, surrounded by twelve senior board members and regional directors. The news of Vanessa Reed’s arrest had already leaked to the financial press, sending the company’s stock down four percent in mid-day trading.

"Vincent, this is a disaster," senior board member Arthur Sterling spoke up, tapping his heavy pen against the table. "The publicity surrounding Reed's embezzlement is bad enough, but rumors are circulating that your wife has filed an emergency asset freeze against the primary holding company."

"Claire won't freeze the assets," Vincent said, his voice quiet, though his jaw was set tight. "She's upset. She's grieving. I am going to meet her tonight and resolve this privately."

"She isn't meeting you tonight, Vincent," a clean, razor-sharp voice echoed from the doorway.

The entire boardroom turned.

I walked into the executive suite.

I wore a tailored navy silk suit, my dark hair pulled back into an immaculate bun, my posture fluid, graceful, and completely unshakeable. Beside me walked Marcus Vance, holding two leather briefcases filled with court documents.

Vincent stood up so fast his leather chair knocked back against the glass wall. His gray eyes locked onto my face, taking in my sharp suit, my quiet composure, and the complete absence of the soft, desperate wife who used to wait for him by the window at 8:00 PM.

"Claire..." Vincent choked out, his voice cracking. "Claire, what are you doing here? You should be resting—"

"I am perfectly fine, Vincent," I interrupted cleanly, stopping at the foot of the mahogany table. "And I am here to exercise my corporate rights as thirty-five percent voting shareholder of Moretti Enterprise."

Marcus stepped forward, placing a certified court injunction flat on the center of the table.

"As of one o'clock today," Marcus announced to the stunned board members, "the Supreme Court of New York has issued a temporary restraining order against Vincent Moretti, barring him from accessing the company's primary credit facilities or making executive appointments without the explicit written approval of Mrs. Claire Bennett Moretti."

Arthur Sterling’s jaw dropped. The surrounding board members scrambled to read the court order, their eyes wide with shock.

"Claire, please," Vincent walked around the table, taking three fast strides toward me, his hands raised in a desperate, pleading gesture. "We can talk about this! Come back to the penthouse. We can fire the legal team, we can fix the company... I don't care about the board meeting!"

I looked at my husband—the man who had commanded an empire, now standing in front of his executives looking broken and pathetic.

"You have an appointment with me, Vincent?" I asked smoothly, raising an eyebrow.

Vincent froze, his breath catching in his throat.

"Because as I recall," I continued, my baritone quiet, cold, and carrying effortlessly across the silent room, "my scheduled time was from 8:00 to 8:15 PM. And it is currently two-fifteen in the afternoon. You are strictly out of bounds."

A collective gasp rippled through the board members.

Vincent looked at me as if I had driven a blade directly into his ribs. His face went pale, his lips trembling as the full, humiliating weight of his own cruel system was turned back against him in front of his entire corporate board.

"Claire..." he whispered, tears welling in his eyes. "Please..."

"The board meeting is adjourned," I told the executives smoothly. "Mr. Vance will handle all future corporate correspondence. Have a good afternoon, gentlemen."

I turned on my heel and walked out of the executive suite, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor, leaving Vincent standing alone in the center of his ruined empire.
