Chapter 7 - The Final Chessboard

Three months later, the autumn rain beat softly against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the executive penthouse at Nexo Urbano.
The company had undergone a radical, cleansing transformation. The toxic rot of the old management had been entirely excised. Brenda Carrillo was currently facing up to twelve years in a federal penitentiary for corporate espionage and wire fraud. Alejandro—abandoned by his high-priced legal team once their retainers ran dry—had entered into a plea bargain, agreeing to testify against Marcelo Vance in exchange for a reduced sentence.
And Marcelo Vance himself?
The untouchable patriarch of Brazilian industry was currently under house arrest, his health failing, his corporate empire bleeding billions in legal defense fees as federal prosecutors dismantled his conglomerate piece by piece.

I locked the phone, walked over to the window, and looked out over the sprawling, glittering expanse of São Paulo.
The city looked different than it had on that rainy night three months ago when I stood on my balcony holding a glass of cachaça, watching my life burn down around me. Back then, I thought I was a victim of a cruel husband and a malicious secretary.
I hadn't understood that sometimes, a fire isn't the end of a life.
Sometimes, it’s just the clearing of the ground so you can finally build something indestructible.

I reached up, touched the silver pendant resting against my collarbone—a delicate, custom-designed black swan carved from obsidian—and smiled.
The game wasn't over. In fact, for the first time in my life, I was the one holding all the pieces.
