Chapter 1 - The Turning Point in the PenthouseThe doorknob turned with a smooth, metallic click. The heavy mahogany door of the master suite swung open, revealing the sharp, aristocratic silhouette of Victoria Vance. Her face was locked into a triumphant, perfectly rehearsed smile, glittering with diamond earrings that caught the soft candlelight of the penthouse.

Victoria stepped across the threshold, expecting to see a broken-down, submissive daughter-in-law cowering in the corner while her son established his absolute dominance. Instead, her eyes landed on a scene straight out of a nightmare.
Dominic, her golden-boy CEO son, was pinned face-down to the Persian rug, his custom-tailored wedding suit crushed against the floor. A woman in a jeweled white wedding gown stood over him with absolute calm, her hand locked securely around his arm, pressing him into the ground with terrifying precision. A thick manila envelope rested inches from his nose.
Victoria stopped dead in her tracks. The triumphant smile vanished from her face, replaced by a look of utter, sputtering shock.
"Dominic? What on earth—" Victoria gasped, her voice pitching upward in sheer disbelief. She lunged forward, her high heels clicking sharply against the floor. "Unhand him this instant, you ungrateful little—"
"I wouldn't take another step, Victoria," I said, my voice cutting through the room with a cold, absolute authority that made her freeze mid-stride. I didn't raise my voice. I didn't need to. "Unless you want to explain to the board of directors tomorrow why your son spent his wedding night eating rug fibers."
Dominic groaned into the carpet, his face flushed with a mixture of humiliation and pain. "Mom! Shut up and help me! Get her off me!"
"Keep struggling, Dominic, and I'll dislocate the shoulder," I murmured smoothly, tightening my grip just a fraction. He whimpered instantly, silencing himself.
Victoria stared at me, her eyes wide with a sudden, dawning terror. For months, she had treated me like a harmless project—a quiet, ordinary girl from a modest background who was lucky to be marrying into the Vance dynasty. She had coached Dominic on how to break my spirit, how to strip away my independence, how to make me entirely dependent on their wealth.
They had spent a year investigating my bank accounts, my apartment leases, and my job history. But they had missed one crucial detail. They never bothered looking into my hobbies. They never asked why I disappeared three nights a week to a sweat-soaked dojo in downtown Manhattan, where I spent hours learning how to neutralize opponents twice my size.
"You... you set this up," Victoria breathed, her manicured hand flying to her chest as she clutched her pearls.
"No, Victoria," I replied, looking down at the manila envelope still resting on the floor. "Your son set it up. He just forgot to check who he was dealing with."
With my free hand, I kicked the envelope closer to Dominic’s face. A red recording light was still blinking softly from his phone on the velvet sofa across the room—the very device he had set up to record my supposed instability.

"The pen is inside the pocket of your jacket, Dominic," I said calmly. "You can sign the annulment now, or we can wait for the police to arrive and review the audio file of your little rules presentation. I'm sure the authorities would love to hear how you planned to trap and control me."
Dominic’s eyes darted toward the sofa, realization crashing over him. The very evidence he had manufactured to destroy me was now the noose tightening around his own neck.
