Chapter 2 - The Miraculous EscapeWhile Vincent sat in his luxury car outside the hotel, drinking scotch with shaking hands and screaming at his security team to find my location, my mind drifted back to the inferno from three years ago.

The memory burned in my chest like liquid fire.
After Vincent had released my hand, leading a weeping Sophia out through the emergency hatch of the failing private jet, I had fallen flat onto the aisle carpet, clutching my swollen belly.
"STAY THERE! I'M COMING BACK!" his voice had echoed over the roaring wind.
He hadn't come back.
As the aircraft pitched violently toward the tree line near a private landing strip in the Canadian wilderness, the rear cargo door had blown outward from hydraulic pressure failure. Through the smoke and alarm sirens, the lead flight engineer—a brave, veteran aviator named Thomas—had sprinted into the cabin.
Thomas didn't ask questions. He didn't check who was important. He saw a pregnant woman trapped in a seat, strapped a emergency parachute harness around my chest and his own, and dragged me out through the rear cargo hatch three seconds before the main engine ruptured.
We fell through the freezing sky, landing hard in a deep snowdrift two miles from the crash site.
Ten seconds later, the jet hit the mountain ridge, exploding into a towering fireball that painted the night sky in blood-red flames.
Thomas had dragged my shivering body through three miles of freezing woods to a remote ranger station. There, in a small, sterile clinic in rural Ontario, thirty-six hours later, my son was born.
He was small, weighing just five pounds, but his lungs were strong. When he let out his first sharp, clear cry, I held him against my bare chest, tears washing the soot from my cheeks.
I named him Leo Thomas Bennett.
I swore on that day that Vincent Moretti would never know my son existed. I let the news reports announce my death. I let Vincent bury two empty mahogany coffins in Chicago.
For three years, I rebuilt my life using my own family inheritance—the Bennett Global Energy Trust—a multi-billion-dollar corporate empire my late grandfather had left me in an offshore trust that Vincent had never known about.

I wasn't a helpless mafia wife anymore. I was the primary shareholder and newly appointed Chief Executive Director of Bennett Global.
And I had returned to Chicago to claim my throne.
