Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Golden HeartIn late September 2026, ten months after that terrifying afternoon in the hospital, the grand auditorium of the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Adelaide & Constance Hayes Heritage & Maternal Health Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, military generals, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
On a private velvet pedestal near the presentation podium rested a beautifully framed military honor medal—a symbol of sovereign resilience, maternal strength, and unbroken grace.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding ten-month-old baby Adelaide in his arms, was Colonel Arthur Hayes.
Beside him stood Lieutenant Colonel Constance Hayes, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her graceful, fully healed figure, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.
Around my neck hung my late mother’s restored gold signet pendant.
Arthur adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten months ago, an arrogant coward handed my daughter divorce papers in a hospital room three days after she gave birth, completely unaware that she was a sovereign warrior born to command empires," Arthur announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable admiration as he looked down at me and baby Adelaide. "And on that morning, a brave mother shattered a traitor's conspiracy, claimed her true birthright, and brought our entire family back to the light."
Arthur held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
