Chapter 3 - The Takedown at the Front DoorAt 11:45 AM, the sweeping brick driveway of the 6,000-square-foot Mercer Estate in the prestigious Broadmoor district of Colorado Springs was bathed in bright mid-day sunlight.

Standing near the grand double oak front doors, wearing a tailored designer suit, holding a silver key ring, was thirty-six-year-old Garrett Mercer. Beside him stood his arrogant mother, Barbara Mercer, wearing a three-thousand-dollar Chanel suit, her arms folded over her chest, a smug, triumphant smirk curling her lips.

Parked on the curb was a small, battered moving van they had hired to throw my remaining clothes into.

"She has fifteen minutes," Barbara scoffed, checking her diamond wristwatch. "If that pathetic girl isn't here to pick up her trash, I'm having the city haul it to the dump. Garrett, make sure your lawyer files the emergency custody waiver today so we can claim her military payout."

"Don't worry, Mom," Garrett grinned arrogantly, taking a sip from his travel coffee mug. "Connie has no energy to fight back. Her heart is weak. She'll sign whatever we put in front of her just to afford her medication."

BOOM!

The quiet suburban street echoed with the heavy, hydraulic rumble of four black armored SUVs turning the corner!

The smug smiles on Garrett and Barbara’s faces vanished in an instant.

The four vehicles pulled directly up the brick driveway, blocking Garrett’s luxury sports cars completely.

The SUV doors flew open. Stepping onto the concrete, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance, four armed military police officers, and four uniformed federal marshals, was Colonel Arthur Hayes.

He wore an magnificent dark charcoal bespoke suit, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the air temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside him, supported by his strong arm, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that highlighted her regal posture, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, holding three-day-old infant Adelaide securely in a velvet travel carrier... was Donna Constance Hayes.

Around my neck hung the fifty-carat emerald signet pendant of the Hayes Family Dynasty, my posture immaculate, my presence dominating the entire estate.

Garrett Mercer dropped his travel coffee mug.

CRASH!

The heavy ceramic mug shattered flat against the brick driveway, splashing hot dark roast over his leather shoes, while his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Barbara Mercer stood up so fast she stumbled backward against the doorframe.

"G-GARRETT...?! ARTHUR HAYES?! CONNIE?!" Barbara stammered, her voice cracking violently as she took two panicked steps backward. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! THIS IS MY SON'S PROPERTY!"

"This isn't your son's property, Barbara," Colonel Arthur Hayes announced flatly, his clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the quiet street, dropping the temperature to zero. "Let's start with the house."

Eleanor Vance stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped federal legal notices flat into Garrett Mercer’s trembling hands:

IMMEDIATE EVICTION & DEED RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Hayes Trust Deeds, confirming Major Constance Hayes as sole 100% legal equity owner of the entire estate, revoking Garrett Mercer’s residential rights effective immediately.

ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Garrett Mercer, Barbara Mercer, and Vanessa Sterling for Premeditated Wire Fraud, Forgery, Extortion, Identity Theft, and $150 Million Embezzlement.

TOTAL ASSET FREEZE: Complete federal seizure of all personal bank accounts, luxury vehicles, and corporate partnerships registered under Garrett Mercer’s name.

"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Garrett shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "CONNIE, I AM YOUR HUSBAND! YOU ARE SICK! YOU CAN'T EVICT ME FROM MY OWN HOME!"

"I didn't evict you from your home, Garrett," Connie corrected deadpan, stepping past him into the marble foyer of her home, looking down at his trembling frame with cold, unyielding disgust. "I repossessed what was always mine. And today... you leave with nothing."

CLICK. CLICK.

Garrett Mercer, Barbara Mercer, and their legal accomplices thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as marshals locked heavy steel cuffs around their wrists behind their backs, dragging them down the brick driveway in total, public disgrace, while local news crews captured their complete downfall for the evening news.
