Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary on the HudsonSix months after the gala at the Grand Meridian, the warm spring sun broke brightly over the rolling green lawns of a grand stone estate in Hudson Valley, north of Manhattan.

The ten-acre property, overlooking the clear blue waters of the Hudson River, had been converted into the global headquarters of the Claire Mercer Triplet Foundation—a charity dedicated to providing high-risk maternal medical care, safe housing, and legal protection for abandoned mothers.

Ethan Mercer was convicted of Grand Wire Fraud, Corporate Embezzlement, and Falsification of Legal Instruments, receiving a sentence of eighteen years in a federal maximum-security penitentiary without the possibility of early parole.

Sabrina Vale's talent agency dropped her permanently following the public scandal, her movie funding liquidated to pay civil restitution to my foundation.

On a warm, clear afternoon in late May, the wide stone terrace of our estate was filled with blooming white hydrangeas, sunlit tables, and fine pastries.

Sitting in a soft luxury playpen near the terrace floor were ten-month-old Leo, Alexander, and Maya—healthy, happy, chubby, and giggling as they played with soft wooden blocks under the warm sun.

Sitting beside me on a teak bench was Julian Vance.

He wore a dark linen shirt with his sleeves turned back, his storm-gray eyes holding a quiet, infinite devotion as he looked down at our children, then turned to look into my eyes.

"The final probate transfer for the Hudson Valley land leases was completed this morning, Claire," Julian reported warmly, pressing a gentle kiss against my knuckles. "Your foundation is fully secured for the next fifty years."

I took a slow sip of fresh lemonade, looking out over the sparkling waters of the Hudson River, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"Thank you, Julian," I whispered softly. "For running through the rain."

Julian smiled—a rare, breathtaking smile that illuminated his sharp features—and pulled me flush against his broad chest, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"I will always run through the rain for you, Claire," Julian promised.
